My dad was cleaning his shed and was getting rid of some stuff that's been sitting there for decades.

He called me this morning, asking if I want some of the stuff. I didn't really want any of this to be honest but he insisted. He said if I didn't want it, I could just put it in the trash. He said he also found a ski rack (I already have 2..) and he would also bring this (sigh...).

When he brought the stuff, I was kind of curious about the ski rack since it was in a Honda box. Hmmm what car could this ski rack fit on?. My dad has been working for a Honda dealer sine 1977 so he collected lots of stuff over the years so it could fit anything...

Here's what the box looks like:

Hmmm blue HONDA letters on an old box. This must fit on an older Honda model. Let's open the box and find out!

When I opened the box, I found a huuuuge mouse nest!! These critters just seem to love old cardboard and car parts. I can't remember how many times I've heard people say they got a mouse nest in their car or air filter box when they put their car in storage.

Anyway, obviously, they chewed on some plastic parts and ruined the box. The ski rack however was in quite good condition except from the mouse pee. In fact, it's never been installed on a car ever!!!

After some cleaning, I found what used to be fitting instructions... there's not much left :(

http://carotman.no-ip.com:8888/album/rwx_gallery/thumbs/instructions.jpg (http://carotman.no-ip.com:8888/album/rwx_gallery/instructions.jpg)http://carotman.no-ip.com:8888/album/rwx_gallery/thumbs/IMG_0027.JPG (http://carotman.no-ip.com:8888/album/rwx_gallery/IMG_0027.JPG)

There's no visible part number on the weather box and the instructions are now of no use... or are they

Well, this particular image caught my attention.
http://carotman.no-ip.com:8888/album/rwx_gallery/thumbs/IMG_0028.JPG (http://carotman.no-ip.com:8888/album/rwx_gallery/IMG_0028.JPG)

Could this be an Accord hatchback roof?!?!?!?

I decided to test fit the front part of the rack on my own hatch.

http://carotman.no-ip.com:8888/album/rwx_gallery/thumbs/IMG_0019.JPG (http://carotman.no-ip.com:8888/album/rwx_gallery/IMG_0019.JPG)http://carotman.no-ip.com:8888/album/rwx_gallery/thumbs/IMG_0020.JPG (http://carotman.no-ip.com:8888/album/rwx_gallery/IMG_0020.JPG)

It fits!!!! It fits!!!! There's a small indentation in the front seam and the rack is just meant to fit there.

Now let's try the rear part. This thing is a little tricky. The roof gutter doesn't have the same width on each side. I didn't take pictures of the internal fitting but I had to grind a bit of the parts. I don't know if I'm supposed to grind these (no instructions meh..) but there was no way it would fit without a bit of grinding.

I KNOW the rack is supposed to fit the hatchback now. The kit includes a new roof molding to match the rack mount. There's no way this kit could be meant for another car. Here's what it looks like once the rear mount is installed.

You can see the two part moldings and the actual mount where the rack will bolt to.

Now, I can finish the installation :D

The ski holder flaps can be put either in up or down position.

When you want to secure the skis, you have to install a rubber strap (hard to see in the picture)

With the flaps down, you can install a roof box.

My dad had this OEM Honda 86-89 Accord Hatch (and Aerodeck) for more than 20 years without even me knowing about it...

This is the same thing as the JDM Multi-carrier seen in the accessories brochure.

This gave me a a kick in the butt to work on this project again. I've got too much rare parts to put on this car to let it sit unfinished in the garage.

I wish my dad could pull cool shit out of the shed once in a while. All he ever gives me is landscaping tools.

Out of curiosity, how do you know it's solely for the hatch and aerodeck? No coupe love?

Oh, maybe it could fit the coupe as well.

Great find, wish I had a shed with treasures!

Is it just me or are there more people who can't see carot's pics?
EDIT: I can see them now! :)

Now it just needs some fake wood grain side panels and you'll be all set for family vacation, 3geez style. :kekeke:

With those square tubes you might be able to use Thule mounts for bikes and other stuff. I'm pretty sure Thule racks still use the square cross bars.
