shimming a starter?????

I have a 1988 honda accord lxi, it started grinding on startup and has been through 2 starters already of wearing out the teath on the starter. I installed another new one a couple days ago and want to figure out how to fix this or shim it if needed. I have never shimmed a starter before so dont know what sizes to get or how to tell how much to shim, all help would be appreciated, thanks.

you prob want to be putting a shim between the solenoid and starter body.
there should be one there anyways.
