Good day,

I'm a student and member of the Canadian Forces, originally from Newofundland and now (Somewhat unfortunately.:P) stationed in Kingston, Ontario. I just picked up a 1989 Accord LX - Carbeurated with the 2.0L and 4spd auto, completely rust free with 143000km on it.

Figured I'd throw up a couple pictures and ask a question that's been puzzling me. Is there a common problem with the clocks in the dash with this gen. of accord? Mine cuts in and out, but still keeps time.. And I have driven another '89 (EXI) that was the same!

As well, there's a little rattle coming from the front end. Doesn't sounds like ball joints or anything too serious, only happens when going straight over bumps. Haven't checked to see if the brake pads are rattling around there. Is there a bushing of some sort that tends to go in the front ends of these cars? The sound only comes from under the driver's side front wheel.

Here's a couple photos!

Looks nice! Not too bad of mileage either.

As for the clock, mine does that too. It hasn't done it so much recently, I think it's just a connection somewhere that needs to be re-soldered after the years went by.

I like the color! It's similar to the color of my 89 Lxi Hatch. It could possibly the upper arm bushing, although mine made more of a groaning noise than a rattling when I had to get that fixed.

Thanks!

I've been under the car, not much to see except undercoating and original paint.. There's a completely new Honda exhaust system on it from the manifold back, along with some other new parts. (Alternator, water pump, radiator, and timing belt.)

With regards to the rattle I'm getting in the front end, it goes away when the brakes are applied. When I get a chance to get the wheel off I'm going to have a look at the brake pads to see if they're cracked or missing the anti-rattle clips. If it's only the anti-rattle that's missing, I'll wear out the pads and replace the clips when I do a brake job. Can anybody think of anything else in the front brakes that should be checked while I'm at it?

Thanks! It's a Canadian car, so that distance is in kilometres, just over 89 000 miles!

Looks good. I'm new here, too. I've got an 89 lx-i coupe, around 93k mi. Not streetable yet :(

Welcome from California! The rattle is most likely brakes. The clock is not a common problem so far as I've been able to tell (ie: mine works great). A junkyard replacement should work wonders.

The clock problem sounds familiar. I've got two Aerodecks, one clock doesn't work at all and one turns off every now and then and gets back on after a while and still displays the time correctly...

Welcome to the site. I am new also. My 89 Lxi clock does the exact same thing. Clock keeps time but the LEDS/LCDs ??? are lit some times and more often are not lit. My old 92 LX clock was always a champ and never went off. I think its in the unit itself and not a connection. Its down low on my priorities to fix. Hoping someone here on the board nows the root cause and how to fix. Not just a "changed it" and its good now story hopefully ....

Keep me posted on the rattling also. I am after a front end noise too but its not in the brakes.
