View Full Version : Long distance 3Gee? D2's must go.

So I'm going to start by removing my D2 coilover suspension. They are just to stiff for a long drive. When I purchased the D2's, I had aspirations of driving around a small track. These have changed to ideas of roaming the country in an old Honda. First trip will be California, and I have to get something close to stock but not the same ground clearance (actually wheel gap lol). I have decided to go with the tokico springs, 1" drop is going to look terrible with the wheels :violin:. I will be using tokico blues in the front, and some type of Gabriel strut in the rear. Front (inner/outer)tie-rod ends, bearings, rotors, and pads. Not going to do much maintenance in the rear. I already have most bushings replaced on the whole car with prothaine ones. One of the rear calipers needs to be replaced, everything else is in good shape. I'm hoping those springs are not to stiff for the struts, but my wishful thinking is that tokico manufactured both and made them work together. Pictures will be up as soon as I take off the first bolt lol.

I already have to much stuff i have kept around for this car. I just need to sell them, and be done with it :( . I got the new suspension on, and it a 4x4 now. At least it is comfortable to drive now tho.

It's much less aggressive, but kinda nice not having to fear every bump and pothole. I think my spine will thank me in the long run lol.

Yeah I know what you mean, I'm still driving around with stock shocks/springs while my K-sports are collecting dust lol.
But for your situation it's the right decision, even though I believe it was a hard one to make!

well if you like mexican food, and i mean real sonoran food not tex mex there's plenty of that... but to say it has anything more than tejas would be overstating it.

Never actually dumped mine, so not sure. I would assume they are similar to the k-sports. You should talk to mushroom toy, he would know best.

can you even notice any difference with the pinch fork mod? I done it to my car and didn't notice any change whatsoever :(

Spoke with D2 on the phone awhile back abd they make different weight springs for your coilovers. You can actually tune them to almost a stock ride. Just get the springs you want. I belive( its been awhile ) factory are 800 and you can go all the way down to 200. And I know that is higher than other setups but the guy at the factory said( cause I ask ) it is not rated the same as a factory coilover is rated so 200 is pretty soft.

Oh ant the dragons tail is very overrated unless you can catch a day that it is not very very very crowded or has a tone of cops lurking around every corner. But some damn nice views to look at whils you are driving around very steap curves at 5 mph.

I have not done it yet. I decided since I am putting 5k-6K miles on in one trip, a little ground clearance would not hurt. You never know what kind stuff you will find in the road.

Yes they gave me that offer, but I was looking at $150 a spring. My initial setup was somewhere in the range of 1200LBS front 1500LBS rear (so basically a piece of steel welded into my suspension lol). I got all my replacement parts for $400.00, and it rides perfectly. Definitely glad they have options tho.

Just run the dragon on non motorcycle days like today my last runs of 2011 were uninterrupted. If you go up there on July 4th yeah its just parade laps and choking on the exhaust of rich running motorbikes.

Like I said. D2 raiting is not calculated the same a factory coilover. 200 for them is more than 230 factory.
I ran the dragon last october on a tuesday befor noon. Still had to watch for cars motorcycles and cops.

Well all the suspension has been replaced. I am now working on the A/C system. Cruise control will be next, but currently my cruise control does not work. Im worried it has something to do with my wire harness not being factory. I'm also thinking about getting a roof rack, but I do not want one that I have to drill into the roof. Is anybody familiar with a rack that will fit the hatch? Also found oneif my front rims is bent, and my rear tires need to be replaced. I purchased a set of new 15" steel wheels, and tires from discount. I will post pictures of that tomorrow.

I like the look, but you either need blacked out beauty rings or some sticky wheel weights on the inside of the wheel. To me, that wheel weight ruins an otherwise really good looking car.

Thanks I agree, the wheel weights look terrible. They are even worse in person. Im going to go to discount today, and see if they will change them out. Also thinking about polishing the lip. Someone on here did it, and I think it looks great. I'm thinking a facelift bumper with the integra lip may help the look of the car a little as well. The bottom of the front bumper is to far from the ground compared to everything else.

3200 miles into the trip, so far the car is driving well. The PCH really made me miss the d2s lol. Besides that the car is holding up, and I only have about 1800 miles left.

Yeah it has been mostly been camping, I've set it up so I can just pull up and sleep in the back of the Hatch. It's been so much fun so far, only have about 1 week left before I head home.

I had a little trouble with the front left camber adjust bolt loosening itself. Besides that it has been running like a dream. Fully loaded I have been averaging 27 mpg.

nice man! i have allways wanted to do a cross country trip in a old honda :D

and i definitely hear you on going back to a stock suspension lol...i did that on the 95 . was slammed on ground controls and tokico blues...road like shit made you scared of every dip on the free way or bridge cross overs. pot holes dented my oil pan etc :lol: got some decent junkyard front struts and springs up front and new manroe struts in the back that already blew thanks to the worn out junkyard springs i put on...need to get new springs and exchange the struts lol

crx will be another story...koni yellows, ground controls, pic hard rubber bushings <3 right now its on ebays with Gabriels hahaha (came that way)
