Hey yall my name is Vern, I'm from michigan but I hate rust so I moved to alabama. I bought myself an 87 accord back in june of 07 and I've been lurking around here ever since. I finally joined last year after I realized I loved my poor abused car. I've hit 4 deer on it, I used to take it mudding and jump old wooden bridges on dirt roads with it. I've given her quite a few battle scars, but now its time to take care of the old girl. I just broke the trans in it a few weeks back and in my search for another one I stumbled across an 87 hatch that I literally drove by every day and never noticed it sitting there. I picked it up for $100. :D I just pulled the trans out of both cars today and plan on putting the sedan back together tomorrow! Afterward I will be saving up to fix the hatch, and make it into a car that will somewhat compare to the some of the nicer cars here. Once its completed I will do the same with the sedan. Alright enough blabbering here are some pics

The sedan

The broke transmission(broke the pin that the spider gears rotate on in the differential and it decided there was more room outside the case than in)

Loving the interior on that hatch. You want to go ahead and send me the dash, and door panels :naughty: ? Good luck with the project.

Um no I don't think so. I like it too, but it is nasty right now, and as you can see the drivers seat is in very poor condition. I'm probably going to pull the seats and carpet out so I can steam clean the carpet, I'm thinking about when I have the seats recovered I will do the centers in the grey and then along the outside in charcoal grey or what ever you call it. I just got my sedan pretty much put back together so its driveable again, when I get a chance to clean it back up I will post some more pics of it.

Thanks. I actually don't even own the rims, the guy I bought the car from said he wanted them back to build a trailer with :hsugh: the guy is 78 years old, pretty sure he's not going to be building a trailer.

Did you have problems getting your axles out after it broke a18a? The passengers side came out ok but the drivers side I had to stick a rod in from the other side and beat it out, ended up breaking the clip.

That's my old ride. My new one is blue, and was poorly maintained over time.

Ok I've been searching but can't find it, I need to know the difference between a dx/lx 5sp and an lxi. Apparently my car had a carbed 5sp before cause I could do 80 and be just a tad over 3k now I'm doing 70 at 3k. Is it just the differential that's diff or is all the gears lower on a lxi a2q5? If its the gears I'm swappin out 5th from my broke trans.

Nm I just found it kinda, not he exact thread I was thinking of but enough to know that I can't just swap out 5th. http://www.3geez.com/forum/showthread.php?t=165 :(

The only thing that changes is the differential, all the gears are the same.

Thanks. I pretty much figured that out after reading the link I posted above. That's what I was thinking, not what I was hoping for.

Well, things should be getting started soon on the hatch. I finally was able to get a transmission for it. Came out of an 88 lx. Got a set of steelies to go on it too. Also picked up a headlight housing to fix the one that is bent up. Got all new corners and eyebrows. Now I just need the turn signals in the bumper, a rear fill panel, motor mounts and change out the timing belts and seals. I got the distributor tore down now, about to change the seal and bearing, in it. The weights were fine so I just lubed em up some with some graphite. Once I get the remaining pices I need, I will start a picture thread.

I posted a thread on how to take apart and re-assemble the EFI (LX-i, Se-i) distributor, including some info on where to get the bearings (OE or replacement) If you search for EFI distributor teardown, you will find it (the photos should be still there)

Good luck with the projects

Yeah I saw that a while back. I just took the bearing and seal with me to the parts store and they found the ones I need. Taking it apart was pretty easy. I figured I'd just wing it and if I ran into problems I'd find your thread. I will know monday if I get the right seal. I know the bearing will work that I ordered.

what bearing place was this? if they can find those I would like to send them a set of bearings and a seal from a carb dizzy

pickupman6

it wasn't a bearing place it was just a local autoparts place. We just measured it with a digital mic and looked in the books til we found one. I don't recall the the brand of bearing, or even which book he ordered it from. If you give me the measurements and what type of bearing I could check for you. Jason (the owner) will let me go through the books, I do it all the time. Most real autoparts stores can probably find most anything you're looking for if they would take the time to look. Jason gets all my business and has for the last 8 years, for the most part. Autozone came out with their rewards card and I tried them out for a couple of months. After numerous (read 95%) bad parts I went back to jason. I had an 87 celebrity eurosport and no one, not even gm could get them for me. Every one I got was wrong. Took it to jason, first try was a succes. I have rarely ever gotten a bad part from him.

I like that hatch. Glad you got the sedan back on the road. As for tranny swap I had to put a new one in mine and must of got a carb model since my speedo is off.

pickupman6

The sedan is barely on the road. The head gasket is slightly blown. Once it warms up it starts pumping combusion gases into the radiator. Then when I cut it of it leaks water on top of the piston. Once I get the trans in the hatch and insure it I will be driving it while I fix the sedan again.
Your speedo shouldn't be off, you're just going faster at the same rpms with a carbed trans. At 3k you should be around 80 as apposed to 70 with the lxi trans.
