Just joining the ranks of the 3Gs .... Bought my 88 Honda Accord LXI a while back for $600 bucks. It gave me a good year without any problems. I let it sit for a while once it started giving me trouble, but Ive decided that I want to hook it up now. Just put quite a bit of work into only major things left it the idle control (the famous up and Down Rev) and my 5th gear went out so i need a trans. Still driving it everyday and runs great. After all the under the hood mods I'm going to start the inside then finally the out don't want a pretty bad running car lol. But anyways whats up everybody!

Welcome from Nevada! The idle is usually cause by the fast idle valve behind the manifold. Does it go away after it warms up?

It usually starts after it warms up. When I first start it up it doesn't do it but after about 10 mins. I'll pull up to a light and there it goes Up and Down Up and Down. Its so annoying and kinda embarrassing

Next time it does it, remove the cover on the fast idle valve and see if air is passing through it.

Where exactly is it located I'm not the engine worker i do more appearance and sound work to cars.

Its on the back of the intake manifold towards the passenger side. Its the thing with a metal plate on top with 2 screws if im not mistaken

OK thanks I'm check it out and if air is not passing through it was does that mean I need to replace ? Heard there like 3 things that could cause the problem and there all right there together?

If air is passing through the valve while it doing the crazy idle, then it could mean that the valve is not getting coolant, the lines are blocked or the valve is bad.
