one more time . . . timing belt interval

So . . . how long do you go before you change your timing belt on your 3 g? I'm at 55k now and will probably do it at 60k. Does age make any difference? My last change was in May '06 . . . so I'm almost at 6 years and almost at 60k. Yes, I did a forum search and read the posts. Just wondering . . . when do YOU change your belt? Rocketman

From what everything i have seen it should be changed at 60k.

if in doubt, change it. age does matter. I change mine whenever I plan on using a engine long term, and would probably do it every few years or 100000km/60000miles if I ever do that much mileage

100k should be fine its your choice really. I'm prolly pushing 115k on mine.

the 60k was industry standard in the late 80's. Belts are much much better now.

I have used 90-100K miles. That is also the recommended interval from my mechanic who started his own business after working for Honda for 25 years. My sample size is small - just my own car, but this interval seems just fine.

I run mine to 80K intervals before changing the timing belt and change the tensioner pulley every other belt change. This has worked well for me and my car has 420K on the original engine. Old Blue's statement about belt technology being better is correct.

^^Believe it or not back in 1991 the local Honda dealer parts guy said that in '89 the interval increased from 60K to 90K due to improvements in belt construction. I don't know if that's correct or not, but I am about to do my fourth belt change. I remember having to change drive belts on my old car every 3-5 years. This car's drive belts last as long as the timing belt (that's when I change them). All the rubber stuff on these cars is pretty good. The hoses last a lot longer than older cars' hoses, too.
