Well guys it looks to be about that time when aged seals start to weaken and fail. The rubber plug on a 4040 brake valve failed, good thing I have a few of those on the shelf.

Time to start storing some of these hard to find parts.

most integras have the same prop valve but idk if they would bolt up.

Yep, trying to find a new one for a decent price.

$153. I think I would pick up a few from the local junkyard instead.

Yes they are, I have a few of those junkyard valves. But the rubber plug on the junkyard ones are failing more often. These are 15-20+ year old parts and the rubber plug has deterioated increasing the failure rate.

The one that failed was on the daily driver my wife uses for work and kids. Not something I want to take a chance on.

that may be true, but i've found that reinforcing it with some shoe goo works wonders :)

If the plugs are blowing out then the internal seals are leaking, which is bad news. The seals inside are cup seals (not simple o-rings) which won't be replaceable unless you can find some the same size. I think if mine ever goes bad I may look into re-doing the system with an aftermarket prop valve.

These are pretty simple hydraulic systems, thankfully. Might be worth it to just use an aftermarket prop valve, as Cygnus said.

The only thing about an aftermarket valve is that you would have to rearrange the system so that it's split front to rear instead of diagonally. The stock prop valve is actually two valves that are internally balanced. Not that big a deal though.
