so i have an 89 accord and i just bought some 17 in rims to put on it, but as soon as i went to put them on, i realized the upper control arm is in the way.
is there a away to solve this issue or do i just need to go back to smaller tires?

Your tires are to big.

215/40-17 23.77” 102.4%
205/40-17 23.46” 101.1%

These sizes are the same size as stock. (are pretty close)

theres no possible way to change control arms or anything? theyd work perfectly if it wasnt there

what offset are they? You might be able to get away with using wheel spacers

I think your rims are the wrong offset if I'm reading correctly. there are some stickies on the top of the page should tell you what offset is correct. I think its is +35 mm.

You wont find any 17" tires that are stock or really even close to stock overall size because I have been looking for 10 years. Close is atleast one inch oversized.

I've got Motegi 17 inch rims with 205/40/17s on them and they dont rub one but anywhere, they're practically the same size as a 205/70/14.

anywho here is the info on them..
Motegi MR125 black 17x7.5 4x100 4x4.5 Offset 42 Hub Bore 72.60

from the online tire size calculator (http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tirecalc.php)

The reason your rubbing is cause your new tires are almost 1.60 inches taller. I think your prolly gunna have to get new tires and recoup your losses by selling the current tires on ebay.

195/60/14 was the stock factory size. 23.2 inches over all.

205/70/14 25.3 inches. That's 2 inches taller. It effects your overall gearing in my opinion negatively.

I think 185/70/13 was also the stock size on the DX model.
