Found this on www.advanceauto.com "Pro-King Manual Transmission Rebuild Kit, Includes Syncros" it runs $216.49. Says it has Bearings, gaskets, seals and synchronizer rings. Would this fix my 5th gear being gone. What do you guys think?

only if the synchro is bad, it won't bring the collars or gears
it should only bring bearings, synchros, and seals
I got mine from allstategear.com
http://allstategear.com/allstate/productsearch.aspx
it was around $170 after shipping

5th gear has its own fork, synchro, gears, and synchro hub, so any part can fail without affecting the rest.
If your synchro is bad the kit will work.
If the gear or synchro hub is bad the kit will not work

Dang that just scared me. I so hope I dont get this put in and it wont fix it. 2 expensive to get the trans taken down numerous times and I cant do transmission work. pretty sure it needs the kit anyway guess i should jus tell the shop to hold off if something else is bad inside it

I have only seen one 5th gear failure and it was because the splines on the counter shaft rounded off. That's a major failure and a rebuild kit would not fix it. I don't think most people lose 5th that way though. Anyway, I don't think a rebuild kit is going to help if you lost 5th.

so your 5th gear does not work at all? the rebuild would not fix it unless you get a new 5th gear or get one from a working trans. it might be cheaper to just swap out the trans with a junkyard one.

No I have a 4 speed at the moment which sucks. The thing is how long would a junkyard tranny last especially with a car thats gonna be modded which puts my stress on it. Anybody know the price of the gears and where you can get them I found a shop that does labor for 350 maybe less if its a easy fix

Most people lose 5th because of low oil. If you had an oil starvation situation, there's probably a lot more damage in the trans you have than you realize.

Wow thats crazy because I never even knew that the trans used oil like that to keep it running healthy. Im at a lost of what to do. What do yall suggest?

It doesn't use oil. The seals get old and start to leak. They need to be replaced when they get to that point.
