5ht gear gone...i heard it is easy to replace

by pulling the black cover on the tranny i can swap it out no problem in the middle of the street

Yeah, but it probably ruined a bearing further into the tranny. So there is a possibility things inside the tranny could get screwed up later.

Its problaby just wont out the gear, thats how they usually go. I'd guess it can be done with the trans still on the car. I'm not sure how much room the 3rd gen has between the end of the trans case and the frame though.

Its pretty strait forward.

Take off the cover.
Pop out the roll pin and remove the shift fork.
Place the trans in gear
Slide the slider down to engage 5th (being in 2 gears locks the trans so you can undo those big nuts).
Undo the nuts, remembering that the one twards the front has reversed thread.
Slide the old gears of, remeber how they go back on for future reference, you cant put that stuff on backwards.
Go to honda and shell out $250 for a new 5th gear set.
