I read about people having 5th gear go out in their trannys. Can i remove the 5th gear portion from my car and save it since i am going to scrap the car in the next week or so? Or would it be easier to remove the whole tranny? I plan on getting another 3G down the road and plan on keeping some spares from this car that i know are working or recently replaced. thanks for all the help you guys have been.

yup you can get 5th gear out, you don't even have to pull the gearbox off. just that little black cover on the end of it is what houses the 5th gear

In the case that you don't get another 3gee, you can probably sell that 5th gear cluster to someone with an Integra that wants a longer 5th gear for highway cruising. I've sold a couple to Integra owners.

What all is removed when you take the 5th gear out? I want to make sure I get out everything I may need. Thanks again

5th gear cover, 2 nuts, and some other various hardware. 5th gear sits outside of the main transmission case. The service manual will walk you through the procedure.

A 30 mm socket and a 5mm (3/16") drift are the most unusual tools you'll need.

5TH gear. Should be able to remove it as long as you have space to fit the 30mm socket. You may have to separate the driver's side mount and tilt the motor

I have a similar problem. I have a 89 sedan accord that wont get the reverse gear. Could i do something similar? Do i have to remove the whole tranny or just the gear box

Sorry, the reverse gear is deeper inside the trans.

Reverse gear isn't synchronized, so if the clutch drags a bit it's hard to get into gear. Will it go into gear if the engine isn't running?

On my car, it will not want to go into reverse unless I put it in 1st first. I do it out of habit now that I haven't even bothered to fix it as it is so fast. You should try pushing the clutch in, stick it in first and then directly in reverse and see if it helps.
