Carb Rebuild Question

so i decided to floor my car the other day ( ima dumbass) and when i let go of the pedal , it continued to idle around 5200, turned of the car it dieseled and wouldnt stop so i removed he air box and thes screen and pushed he top flap closed and it shut off , but it also spit air and gasback at me from the top of the carb,

my question is will rebuild the carb fix this? should i try to get one from the junk yard and will i need any additional item's such as gaskets o rings ect

The accelerator linkage should be jammed somewhere. Have somebody help you pressing the pedal to the metal (with the engine off) and check why it won't come back. The pedal drives the transmission (if automatic) also, so check that one too.

the thing my throttle cable is wraped around wont go down and touch that peice i can see any reason why i can push it towards it and my idle returns to normal

The screw is part of the throttle controller.
If the engine is off in that pic then it's not touching because your throttle is stuck open. Pushing the top flap closed, closed the choke, which is one way to kill the motor, assuming the secondary is closed.
Usually when the engine is running, normal manifold vacuum applied to the throttle controller diaphragm will pull that screw away from the plate it contacts. Having to push the plate towards the screw is not how it should be working, so you need to check the accelerator pedal, throttle cable, and linkages for binding and clean the carb, also check the return spring.

i have confirmed the return spring is not functioning how do i replace this and where do iget the spring from ,and he engine was off

Find a similar carburetor from a Junkyard. If your car was working OK, Do not mess with it and just change the spring!

But if you had other problems already, then an overhaul is recommended and people here will be glad to help you through the process.

If you can't find the part you need you might have to add an external return spring to the carb, much like you would on a weber.

Make sure the throttle closes and opens fully and the spring itself doesn't fold or get caught up in anything nearby and you'll be set.

When you set it up right you should feel a bit more resistance when you press the gas pedal, but nothing that would make you think the accelerator cable will snap.
