You know I'm always a fan of your ride, but the red wheels look terrible IMO. The style fits well, just not a fan of the color. Besides that, the 4x100 conversion is going to allow for SOOO many wheel options!

Its not staying red, thats for sure haha! But FFUUUUUUUUUUUUU apparently the 2g Civic drums didn't work as well as I hoped. I'll get pics up later to show whats up. Looks like im gonna have to swap the whole drum assembly now. Sucks that I had all new parts on my old drum (N)
BTW The wheels are 15x6.5 +38 offset (same as my old wheels) with 195/50/15 tires. They barely clears my spring perches and arches :o
I have 1g Prelude hubs swapped into my old spindle and reusing my old bearings as they're pretty new (and I'm being cheap). Reused my old calipers even. I'll get pics up as soon as I can!

Red wheels would still look interesting for a while.
Adding bolts to the prelude hubs? 1g Preludes were the only Honda to use wheel bolts (like VW) rather than nuts.
Also '79-80 model year Preludes had different driveshaft splines (like most 1g Accord) to '81-82 (like most 2g Accord) for those who mightn't know.
I've had 15x6.5 +38 offset & 195 tyres on mine too... Individual tyre brand/shape starts to become important to fit at the back.

Car is on the ground at the moment and drives fine. My brakes are a little spongy but its prob requires another bleed or something. I could hear something grinding, sounds like my pads having a sexy time with the rotors :p I reused the junkyard rusted out condition rotors after a quick clean up with a wire brush LOL I am too cheap to get them turned, besides I'm gonna upgrade them to EF/EG brakes for the front sometime soon, so why waste my money on the current stuffs?

Why do I picture these rims with a flat black paint job? I know you're not getting any fans of the red on those rims, but they make me imagine an Accord "Rat Rod" and they ARE cool rims, especially if you had some Honda center caps on em. I wish I had the guts and the resources to mess with my wheels and open up a bigger field of rim choices but in the meantime I'm stuck with the factory set up. I've considered painting them a nice glossy black, or even just "Dipping" them. Throw in some new chrome trim rings and I think they'd look pretty good. The factory finish on the factory rims is pretty cool in itself, (I like that glossy brushed aluminum look) but sadly (at least on mine) it's seen better days and I imagine it would cost quite a pretty penny to get them redone. Anyone here ever done that?

I'd say about 3-4 if you have the proper tools for it. They are pretty easy to do. I wish that I took more step by step pics >< The hardest part would be getting the axle nut off and pressing in the hubs, which I got them done at the shop. Rear drums are just the matter of drilling the extra 2 holes so the holes would line up. The cables and all line up perfectly (Y) Oh and putting the shoes and springs back on was kinda fun too :p Make sure to do one at a time so you can refer to the other side just in case you forgot and mess something up haha!
Make sure that your new prelude/civic hubs works with your current axles first! Bring your current axle to the junkyard and play around with them. Theres 81-82 and 79-80 Prelude and they both have different driveshaft splines.

Don't bother with adapters, this is the chance for you to upgrade your brakes while you're at it if you want to, besides I only spent close to US$150 for the front and rear + pressing the hubs. Your price might vary but I'm pretty sure they won't cost as much as the adapters itself.

Yeah they don't have any Civic hubs in stock so I was like eff that I'll just deal with the lug bolts instead :D I've got the early lude hubs and reused my driveshafts (Y) My advice is use the early lude or 2g Civic? hubs so you don't have you to replace the driveshafts too.
What exactly I used on this swap:
79-80 Prelude front hubs
79-80 Prelude rotors
81 Accord calipers (reused)
81 Accord bearings (front and rears) and driveshafts (reused)
Complete 2g Civic (unsure of the year) rear drum assembly
Reused the bearings as mine are new and much better than the prelude and civic ones that came with them

I was gonna do the rear disk too but too bad they don't have any in stock. Preludes are hard to come by here :(

you want to look for a paint color called argent silver, it was used on a lot of American car wheels so it's easy to find,it's the exact match to the silver Honda used on their wheels

So I just ripped my hubs and wheel bearings apart, and I learned something tonight. If you're in USDM land, the 79-80 Prelude hubs are too small. The splines are too small and won't fit around the axle, and the hub OD (the ID for the wheel bearing) is too big. I probably should have double-checked this online at a parts site...
I also tested my '86 F1 edition calipers, and they do bolt onto the knuckle, just gotta do a little grinding on the caliper bracket.

But hay thanks guys. I love the new color a LOT. It appears dark gray under normal lighting but when you the sun hits on it, it goes bronze-ish with a lot of orange hint to it. Soooo sick!

Ouch. Surprised & sorry to hear that! Most curious.
You might want some 2nd gen Accord (or the '81- '83? prelude) hubs, they were that little bit bigger.
edit: or earlier driveshafts & bearings as Hazwan suggests.
Not that you can count upon online parts lists.

I liked the red too though silver wasn't dramatic enough.
I thought you were going much lighter with that teaser pic, or did you have second thoughts about that.

Those wheels look awesome Hazwan! Great work on those. Color looks damn near identical to the wheels I painted for my Miata. :) The dark wheels looks great with the polished lip. And the 15's look so good on your car!
So yeah, I've been finding that the 81-82 Preludes use the same wheel bearings as my 81 Accord. But now I have to start my search all over. Maybe you're right about the 82-83 Accord hubs working though. Making up a spreadsheet of wheel bearing sizes and spline counts. Probably going to make a couple stickies after I get it all figured out. One with Hazwan's swap info for overseas people, and one with the USDM info.

So yeah, I've been finding that the 81-82 Preludes use the same wheel bearings as my 81 Accord. But now I have to start my search all over. Maybe you're right about the 82-83 Accord hubs working though.
If you were going for 2g Prelude rear discs I'd go with the 2g Accord hubs (& maybe early 2g Prelude) just for the wheel studs, though I guess they could be pressed into either Hub before assembly?
Still surprised hubs/driveshafts were different for US for '81 but there had been hints of this in Hazwans earlier 4x100 query post where we found their part numbers differed in US online partbooks for that year & the experiences of others with swapping driveshafts on '81's.
But Honda can be inscrutable. I found that Honda's Quintet; the Preludes closest cousin, kept the old driveshafts into '82-4!

kso I've bought myself a pair of front brakes off an EF. I have no idea what the trim level was but it belongs to a friend of mine and I got them off for pretty cheap. Still have decent amount of pad left too :D

Its exactly the same size grrrr. Oh well at least the new rotors are vented vs solid dick errr disk and the pad area is tiny bit bigger.
And A PROPER WORKING CALIPER WOOT!
Did I mention that my current calipers are junk? Its missing the anti-rattle clip(s), the sliders are junk. That alone is definitely worth all the effort in upgrading the brakes haha :D

Just getting good calipers is going to be a huge improvement! And being able to buy new slider pin kits, and have them properly greased is a godsend. And vented rotors FTW! I don't think the size of the rotors is that big of a deal, though the CRX rotors I have do seem to be slightly bigger. But I doubt they'd fit under those calipers anyways.

I have no idea myself, maybe its different between the markets? I believe mine came off a low end EF so that explains the 9" rotor? Either way its not a huge loss seeing how the EF calipers have a bigger piston in it not to mention THE WORKING SLIDERS <3 hahah. Its still a huge upgrade from the stock setup either way so its well worth the $$ I paid for them (cheap btw!)

Just installed the EK booster and master cylinder....
FUCK I need to stop buying things that "just because it looks like it might fit". I didn't realize that the EK booster is actually 9" vs 8" for the EG booster that I'm currently using.
I've managed to squeeze the booster in except it hits my accelerator cable and broke the tab thinggy that held the cable on the firewall FFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU gotta sort that out tomorrow. I don't want my car to go LOLTOYOTA on me or something dfsdfsd I am so stupid dfsfs.
And I still need to bleed the brakes. Its kinda hard to do so without friends around lol.
Oh and the main reason for the EK booster/master cylinder is my EG booster is leaking and this EK booster/master cylinder popped up for sale last week for real cheap. I thought "hmm that looks like it might fit!!" thinking that I can reuse my EG master cylinder. WRONG! The base is different, forcing me to use the EK master cylinder as well.
What a pita it was. There is basically no room under the dash to get the nuts out.
BTW whats the size of the stock 1g master cylinder? I had 13/16 for both my EG and EK master cylinder and I'm curious if the added front caliper piston size have any effect on my pedal effort. Is the bigger booster gonna do anything at all?

Assuming that your master cylinder (Piston) is the exact same size I would imagine that the larger brake pistons would require more fluid when being used. However I bet the difference probably wont be noticeable. A larger brake booster (Bigger in circumference) should = less pedal effort. The larger diaphragm in it will allow for more "vacuum assistance" from the manifold vacuum while pushing the pedal. I may be talking out my ass but I think you would end up having a little more pedal travel, but less pedal effort. Not to scare you but I'm also wondering about your brake proportioning valve...it's tricky to explain why (It would take too long) but that valve may cause you troubles when you get everything back together. I might have just missed it on here but are you doing anything with the rear brakes as well?

The stock master cylinder is 13/16, so I think the slightly bigger booster along with the bigger master cylinder should work well together. So just to be sure, you had no problem fitting the EG booster? Mine seems bigger than stock, so I guess I'll find out. Worst case, I guess I'll just run the stock parts, which seem to stop the car great, other than the fact that I have no power assist.
I also had to space out the 86 Accord calipers that I used. No big deal. I believe 79Cord also had to space out his CRX calipers.

LMAO who the fuck knows. Apparently its common over here so idk? And yes its brake fluid and NOT ATF LOL.
Anyway so I've got my nephew who happen to be into cars (and love the classic Hondas too!) to bleed my brakes. Took for a drive... OH FUCK feels sooo much better now.
Theres a slight issue: my right caliper seems to lock first when I do a hard braking. Frozen caliper? But it seems to drive straight without any pulls
I still gotta jack the car and check if its stuck/rubbing or something on that side but in normal braking, it feels great. Pedal effort is pretty much the same, if not better but overall, it feels great. Its nice to have working brakes again :D Worth the effort IMO :D I can imagine 2ndGenGuy's brakes gonna be a lot better than mine. Oh and my tires have like 15% thread left :p

Yep mine has washers too, probably only 2mm though.

I was wondering about your front/rear proportioning as well if the front brake wheel cylinder/piston was that much bigger; more fluid required to move it. I guess that should make the rear lock up first though.
I never looked at mine when fitting so don't know how it compares, but thankfully never had any problems.

Yeah, 7/8 is bigger. I just convert everything to 16ths in my head. So 7/8 = 14/16. It's not a lot bigger, but we'll see. Just hope this junkyard booster is good.

Anybody have any idea why the front right wheel seem to lock up first under hard braking? I've jacked the car and checked for frozen caliper and what not and everything seems fine. The wheel would spin freely for about 2 turns before it went to full stop, just like the left side. I'm suspecting that its my tires though. I'm gonna swap them to the back and see if it would make any difference.
So far everything seem and feels fine. Drives straight without any pulls. Just had a long overdue alignment earlier today too haha.

Wow I'm dumb. I just noticed that the old EG booster pushrod has been cut off a little bit by whoever installed the booster before. I'm guessing that it is actually too long compared to the stock setup. So apparently the pedal is actually been touching/pressing the brakes this whole time and that should explain the instant lockup too. Gotta get this sorted out tomorrow! Its 10pm and its just too dark outside grrr.
Oh and I did remove my brake light switch for lols just to see if the pedal would go as far as it could and theres still no free play, which is bad!

My front right tire no longer locks up first but instead, its my rear left tire now FFUUU I'm thinking of e-brake adjustment. I'm guessing its gonna be easier to do vs the front haha.
Either way I still gotta cut the pushrod later (not looking forward to that) and see if it would do anything to the lack of available pedal free play.

Well adjusting the drums did the trick. No more locks! I've cut the push rod about ~1cm too so there's about 2mm worth of free play going on, which is what it supposed to be (Y) aka no more dragging brakes (Y)
See how much longer the EK ones compared to the cut EG ones. It was cut by whoever that got the EG booster installed before.

Great. My front brakes are dragging once again -.- I gotta take them apart again tomorrow and see whats up. The sliders has been cleaned up and re-greased before and basically working like new. I've cleaned up every single corrosion/rust as much as I can but then who knows :rolleyes:

Flexible lines are new-ish. Barely 4 years old. Doubt that they would go bad idk?
Pushrod is short. In fact I had it adjusted too short to the point I would have to press halfways till the brakes grab.

This is funny. I jacked the car and tried to spin the front tires with a moderate force and it would spin for about 2 turns before it would stop. I figured that is normal? I did not take apart the slider pins yet so idk.

The test is simple, drive untill they start dragging, then rise the wheel and open the bleeder, if the dragging stops, then you have some hydraullic issue, if continues is oyur caliper.
