catalytics are generally good for the life of the vehicle assuming the fuel mixture is correct and it isn't burning oil. When they are overheated they melt and plug up the exhaust and is usually caused by ignoring another problem and continuing to drive the car.

And, yet, many (even on this forum) decide to remove the converter to supposedly increase performance. Comments? Why does the owner of an old car "deserve" to put more pollution into the atmosphere than anyone else?

A joke, Mike.

I for one do not believe in removing the emissions equipment for a few more horses.

Joke, yes. I wonder what is different about the converters (name brands) that cost only around $100.

It's like everything in California is stupidly expensive because companys have to pay for expensive license/reveiws/testing of everything entering the state. This is why they are dead broke ass fools.

My understanding is the materials used inside them. I have cut the cheap ones apart, they do not use ceramics or platinum. From what I could tell it was all aluminium.
