Hey guys.
One of the ball joints in a rear upper control arm on my 89 is getting worn. First of all, how long can I get away with not replacing this? As well, what's the normal price for a control arm and an I missing something? All of the local shops want over 100 dollars for the arm and ball joint, but rock auto lists a Moog unit for around 30? If that's what the car actually needs, I'll replace both for less than the cost of one locally..

Change it asap unless you want it to give out while your driving. Then you'll have to pay extra to get it towed home. Happened to me when i was an hour and a half away from home going 70mph on the freeway.

If it is loose, replace it now before it pops out. It happened to me while driving when I hit a bump in the road. The wheel will collapse inside the wheel well and lock up. I replaced mine with a Moog joint. Easy 30 minute job.

x3. Replace it post haste. It will be significant damage and expense if it lets go. We have members on here who have had them give out without any warning.

You'll want to spring for the extra money to buy Moog or TRW. Both are made by 3-5, the OEM maker for Honda. I went cheap the first time and the ball joints had play in a mere two years. You'll pay half as much for the cheap ones and they last less than one-fifth as long.

I just put a front lower ball joint in mine and they wan't 80 bucks for the lifetime one so I got the certified one for 27.When I went to put it in it was stamp 555 so I guess I didn't have to pay 80 to get a good one.I got it at Canadian Tire.

Just ordered two new MOOG control arms with ball joints from Rock Auto, came to a total of 112 dollars shipped, the same price Canadian tire wanted for one. I'll stick the things on there when they come but the car will probably see a few kilometres before that happens.

Be sure to light some candles to Saint Christopher.
