I just got done doing a full auto to manual swap on my kids coupe. It runs and drives good. It has a d16z6 and I've heard on other forums that you can't here vtec on a sohc motor. Is this true or not? I've never had a vtec so new to this. The kid swears he heard it prior to swap. Thanks.

single cam crossover is not as violent as dual cam, he may have heard what he thought was vtec engagement but i doubt it.

Not sure on the D series but on my dads F22B1 is somewhat noticeable but like stat1k said, it wont be as loud as on the twin cam.

Thanks for feedback, very much appreciated when I hear it from people in a forum I actually trust for info. Now I'm just pushing get out the manual and test the sensors to teach him how to use the tools. Thanks again.

if you have an open header it's sometimes noticable. but that's the only time i've ever heard it.

I have a 96 civic EX with the D16Y8. I have a cat back exhaust, cold air intake, good tune up and advanced timing running premium gas and.....I can't hear my vtec at all..
