View Full Version : steering column smoking? smells like electrical

sometimes when I make a hard turn I smell something burning from the column. It smoked real bad one time but hadn't sense. Now all I smell is electrical type burning smell every now and then when I Turn kinda sharp. Please help.

If you're smelling it, you'll be able to see it when you open it up. My guess would be your combo switch is going bad, but you definitely need to have a look.

Is that something that can be easily replaced and can I get the part at a parts store

No. If dealers sell it, it would cost 100-200 (but unlikely). Best luck is junkyard or eBay.

it's discontinued, look for russian kids how to on here on how to repair the switch, igf something is damaged in the switch, you have may to get a couple of junkyard ones and make one good one out of it, this blood sugar stuff sucks I can't even type normal dang it

Last time I looked, Rock Auto had replacement combo switches, but they cost ~$250.

I'll have to look but these can be fixed, Russiankid wrote a great article on repairing them

they have them from 203 to 230 bucks but none look like a hatch one it didn't even give me the option of body style, I suppose if you had to you could put one in a hatch,but you would need the original pigtail and have to match it wire for wire, then add a separate switch for the rear wiper. or you could dismantle one of the new ones and use the good internal parts to rebuild the hatch one
