So I sold my 87 hatch 2 days ago. Test drove a 87 civic with a manual that was fun, but had way too much rust around the frame and suspension. It's true these cars are like an addiction because tomorrow I pick up a new (to me) 88 white dx sedan. It's got a little more rust than the last accord but the price is right at $350 and (I hope) the motor is in much better shape. Im going to make sure this thing will pass my insurance inspection before I spend any more money on it. Pics to come later as it's embarrassing what it currently looks like...

Ok bring on the embarrassment! Needless to say if it checks out to be in good health otherwise it's going to be getting a new hood or a lot of sanding!

So today I opened up the trunk for the first time and found so much stuff! There was all the maintenance records dating back to 1988! The original owners manual was there too! A bunch of spare ( or broken / used? ) parts, a Haynes manual, about 5 bucks in change, and a half drank bottle of booze! This car is starting to pay for itself already!! Right now it has no power steering, but the hose I apparently need to fix it was in there too. Hopefully I'll get some time to work on it this weekend because were way too busy at work now...

I've seen them in worse shape turn out to be really nice cars. The 3gee I have now came to me with the transmission in the trunk. I installed a good one and then stored the car for years. It started getting in pretty sad shape until I started working on it again a few months ago. I'll be driving it soon. I have a few updates that I need to do to my build thread, but it certainly shows a lot of nasty crap that I've cleaned up.

I think I'll pass inspection fine if this sticker has anything to say about it!

So I made a trip to the jy today and made out with a new hood and both front fenders, some misc. interior stuff and an oem sunroof visor (it will be for sale soon as I don't have a sunroof, it was too nice to see get crushed.) This is one of the reasons I love my xterra. It's great for hauling 3G parts!

Thanks! I got the fenders on and started waxing the whole car today. Its amazing how the paint goes from yellow to white lol. Even some small scratches that were starting to rust, the wax took all the rust stains out! Theres much more rust to deal with though.. I still am looking for a mint white trunk and rear drivers door.

New fenders installed! Now I need a new trunk and driver rear door and i'll be pretty much done.

I made another jy run yesterday. Got a new trunk with some kind of spoiler already on it. It even has a led brake light in it that works! I grabbed a nice leather wrapped steering wheel from a first gen integra too. I'm still on the lookout for a prelude wheel but no luck yet. Also grabbed some misc small interior stuff that I needed, a front blinker to replace a cracked one and some center caps in case I ever want to run steelies. I've only got a pic of the steering wheel for now. More to come later, oh and the cars getting a new windshield tomorrow too!

Coming along really nice!

SO jealous because I cant find a halfway decent 3g anywhere here in CT

elarson88
09-26-2012, 01:31 PM
Believe me mine isn't even halfway decent yet, these are just pictures of the good parts. I started with a rust bucket that leaks power steering fluid and oil. It's coming along though and soon it won't be the eyesore it once was. Ive got rear 1/4 rust that im just going to temporarily patch for now until everything else is done, and then maybe some real bodywork will be in order.

Looking better! Is that an SHO spoiler?

09-26-2012, 04:17 PM
I have no idea. It was already installed on the accord trunk when I got it from the junkyard. I'm actually not crazy about it. It's a little small for the trunk and it's too rounded for the boxy look of the 3G, but it sure beats a rusty trunk!

That spoiler does look a little awkward on there, lol.

Great work on the rest of the car though! It looks 100x better than it did when you got it.

Thanks for the compliments guys! It's coming along. I'm waiting on a bunch of suspension parts from rock auto before it will be officially on the road but most of the bodywork is done. I just need to find a driver rear door in decent condition. From this side though it looks pretty decent!

It's not the super rare factory one, its the dealer installed. Still it will be nice to have something to rest my arm on. There was a prelude wheel there finally but it didn't have cruise so I left it behind :(

Jelly about the arm rest! Thats a rare part, but i wouldnt trust half my weight on it lol.. I got the SE-i one cos it looked sturdyer.. At any rate, its a nice addition to the fairly lame stock handbrake area.

Otherwise, car looks great now! Good job with the work, i wish i had a junkyard i could just grab parts at..

Lol Stealth. Miracle junkyard indeed!

elarson88
10-07-2012, 12:07 AM
Haha it's not a miracle junkyard at all its just a regular old picknpull. It's just sad that so many 3gees are being sent to the crusher lately instead of being restored. Yes my spoiler is drilled into the trunk so I will be staying until a better trunk shows up. And I'd love to find an sei armrest but sei's seem rare here. There's never been one in the yard and the only other time I saw one was in the Walmart parking lot. I wanted his wheels so bad! I was tempted to just go ask the dude if I could buy it but it had some rust.

So until I get the sei console in, I found this ebrake boot. It's from an 83 civic, and it fits pretty good in the factory console. It seems to be real leather or a real good imitation.

ebrake boot is pretty sick...hey did you try swaping the 3g horn pad and rear covers over? would be sick if we could have leather warped steering wheels that easily! they look like they will swap too :D

Thanks. And yeah I was thinking that would work by looking at them both. Might do it one day, but for now I'm ok with people thinking my car is an Acura! I really want a prelude wheel though, I just like the 3 spoke design better, but finding one with cruise hasn't happened for me yet. Is the lude wheel a bit smaller diameter does anyone know?
