A friend of mine (not an import fan) was helping me with an exhaust problem last week and we put my '89 accord up on his lift and he complained to me about undercarriage rust . . . suggesting that my 3g wasn't safe. I went over the undercarriage and saw no areas where the body was attached to the suspension components but he still protested that a rusty underbody was structurally unsafe. Anybody have any safety concerns about their undercarriage? Where are the most important areas to concern myself with? Rocketman

One concern is fumes in the cockpit. Another is rust on the subframe unibody structure where suspension attaches and where unibody stability is required.

Need to make sure your brake lines are safe. Had multiple Northern cars and one had lines rust through . May want to look at strut and shock towers. Make sure none of your components have more than surface rust.
