my key turns ignition but wont start the car???

That's pretty open-ended. Can you provide a little more detail?

when i put key in everything works lights ,bells etc etc as normal but wont start engine. we wired a push button directly to starter an it starts right up

Bad ignition switch. There should be some threads on it if you search around here.

or neutral switch/clutch switch issue

Check for 12 volts at the starter solenoid with key in start position (small wire) & fuse close to the starter. Then work ur way back to neutral safety switch.
