Take off the muffler or put some holes in your exhaust lol...j/k don't do that
Piping , headers won't help much if the muffler is already so quite. It's the muffler that counts. Also the tip.

just dont use a muffler, sounds good

THe header will add sound as well as the 2 &1/4" exhaust But you will probably get the most sound out of a high flow cat.

ive heard stock accords with just headers and its pretty loud..try the header and 2 1/4 piping

my car is loud. header, intake, 2.25 piping, all made it louder... also no muffler makes a difference!

next step for me is to get a testpipe and ADD a muffler!

I think it could just be the muffler... I have a dynomax super turbo muffler with 2.25in catback piping and a fliped carb lid and its pretty loud.... all of the things that you listed will help with the sound but like someone posted... its really the muffler that makes the biggest difference..... when you put untake you'll hear that as well on the high end... as the RPMS get higher the sound will go from the back to the front... you have to also remember that there is a resonater on your stock piping along with the cat... that may be it too.....

how big is your tip on the muffler?

Mantis88LX

yea the size of the tip makes a difference too, bigger tip is louder, smaller is quieter,

yeah i went from a 3 inch tip to a 4inch and it is louder.

Is the tip resonated?
If you have stock piping, then your resonator is still on.

where is the resonator located. i have 2.25 piping custom cat-back. im wondering if its located behind the cat or in front of it by the header.

It's located right behind the cat converter. It's where the pipe gets really fat after the converter. You can see it at the top of this picture. Kinda wierd that I'm showing you a pic of the system you bought off me;)

Well, let me ask you this, are you getting the performance that you want from your setup??? OK, if you are then why are you worried about how loud it is??? Some of the fastest street cars in the world aren't loud at all.... To tell you the truth, my next muffler will be performance but quiet.... But hay, that's just my 2 cents.....

joker is right to many degrees... take a look at police cars... they have a a lot of extra power compared to that same car in its stock form and they are very quiet.... My Uncle does a lot of work with the local police in Lafayette, LA and he said that the majority of the mods are just the ecu .... they tend to vary but the engine work is just overhauls and ports/polishing ... etc... I do like to hear my car growl though.. theres just somthing about the sound that intreagues me....

Exactly what I was talking about 87Accordster!!! Yeah, I love a little growl myself under the hood, like mustangs and cameros have and even police cars but if you notice, that's the only place that growl is coming from, not some loud azz muffler..... Now that's what really impresses me.....

i put a custom short ram intake on last night, it seems to be good enough for now, next is a converter bypass pipe.

What does the resonator do?

quoted from www.howstuffworks.com :
A chamber called a resonator is connected to the first chamber by a hole. The resonator contains a specific volume of air and has a specific length that is calculated to produce a wave that cancels out a certain frequency of sound. How does this happen? When a wave hits the hole, part of it continues into the chamber and part of it is reflected. The wave travels through the chamber, hits the back wall of the muffler and bounces back out of the hole. The length of this chamber is calculated so that this wave leaves the resonator chamber just after the next wave reflects off the outside of the chamber. Ideally, the high-pressure part of the wave that came from the chamber will line up with the low-pressure part of the wave that was reflected off the outside of the chamber wall, and the two waves will cancel each other out.

you can have a seperate "chamber" thats purely a resonator to help dampen the sound which is sererate from the muffler.... usually found like someone said.. maybe Jim?? before the muffler in many applications....

there are a few variations of mufflers though.
My muffler has no chamber and is pretty quiet compared to some of the ones I hear.

the inside has a upper and lower wave of perforated metal sheets.

the waves run parralel between the layers and tapers off to a flat curve towards the center and as the wave moves out along the outer wall of the muffler it gets larger.

a pretty slick design. Free flowing cause there is no actual wall or chamber sort of like a straight through bullet style muffler, and it still gives a nice exhaust note... too soft for me even after the 2.5" went on... so I'm getting an N1 after the A20's fixed.

oohh N1 ...... yummy.... post some pics.....
