Block heater

Found the plugin for a block heater on my car. Since its been getting cold, I'm wanting to try it out. Any idea how long it should be plugged in for before it would be warmed up? I don't want to waste electricity trying to save gas.

An hour or so should be fine. I've never used one, but some have timers.
