Can you restate in very simple terms the gist of that article? I installed a non-standard muffler on my 91 Accord about 5 months ago. The muffler is a very inexpensive Thrush Welded Muffler (http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_welded-muffler-thrush_20291329-p?searchTerm=muffler#fragment-3). Clearly, it does not cause as much back-pressure - and muffling, LOL - as a stock muffler. I surmise from the article you cited that this is bad thing. I do not see it as a bad thing. Indeed, I'd rather have a muffler which provides less back pressure than a stock muffler than one that produces more back pressure, which I believe was the case with the previous muffler that was installed by Midas muffler. That muffler had a smaller tailpipe (only about 1 1/4" diameter) than the muffler before it (also from Midas). I often wondered whether Midas actually gave me the right muffler with that last installation by them. And, a tailpipe could not look any more lame than that 1 1/4" pathetic thing. The Thrush Welded Muffler adds a little excitement to my otherwise unmodified Accord. :)

Are you saying my beater accord's 2.25" straight pipe is a bit much?

Without major mods 2.25" is overkill.
