Well im letting go of something good for something better LOL. ya ya i alread know what you guys gonna say Anywho
I post pics once i get home.
You guys know so far i have a B16a and I just bought a complete B18b1 last night. APr head studs and redo the main and rod bearing for a tighter clearance. 12 lbs should be 300whp.
Pics to your comp near you.
B series swap info:
First off this project can be cheap, expensive, or nothing depending on your sources. But I'm going to give the info I researched an trail an fail lol.
Motor: I'm Ls Vtec which means using a non Vtec block an mating it with a Vtec head. Now you can run non Vtec or Vtec up to you but I wanted a beast so I buildt mine.
Wiring: I'm using a bloomslang jumper harness that was made for my chassis . You have to call bloomslang an tell em you want one made for a 86-89 accord. Only flaw about the harness is the ckp wires are not shielded which 2 bucks can get you the amount needed at Home Depot (shielded 18-2 wire) make sure you have these wires correct or you will not start. Harness uses your existing plugs as your AC solenoid connector for your iac an your fast idle control solenoid (in your black box as your) as your 12+ icm wire. Pretty much it an I took apart my engine bay harness an took out what I did not need an wanted an swapped plugs. You going to have to put a obd1 Ect,iacv, dizzys,Vtec (if have) tps,Iat, CONNECTORS on your existing harness. The jumper harness provides a extension harness to wire up (4) wire o2 sensor an extra crap if you have gsr with 2nd throttle body's. (pics in thread)
Note: IF YOUR 86-87 an have a vss code (17) YOU NEED A 89 CLUSTER to fix this problem.
Transmission: has to be cable unless you decide to swap clusters an do the required wiring to run eletro vss.
Axles: have to use a mid shaft from 90-93 integra, gsr. Has to be female to male!!!!!!! Remember has to be that in order to run the axles I'm about to mention. You can use 94-98 teg mid shaft but you would have to a different seal on the cable trans also have to use 94-94 axle which are made for that midshaft.
Driver - 89 lude (has to be this year not 90 or 91 those years have bigger hub which have a bigger shaft will not fit are hubs )
Pass - 90-93 integra fits like a glove .
Running this with no problems. All this hybrid axle crap makes no sense with this you can just buy one an swap it out.
Shift linkage: you can just swap ends from a 90-93 integra (but I tryed that an was to long) my tip is to tack weld it an test fit it when it feels like it shifts fine . Burn it in. Install bastard pin an your set.
Common facts: you need to be fuel injected an obd1. If your not this is the perfect chance to do it. None of your A20 parts will fit a b series so don't ask. This swap is not cheap so get a civic if you want a easy swap. If you can't basic tech work you shouldn't be working on a car period.
Ill add pics an edit this once I get my Internet back lol. Pics are threw out the thread so start studying .

what kind of rods and pistons will you run?
Rendon LX-i
06-13-2011, 10:07 PM
Ill prolly run just the stock ls pistons and rods with ACL bearings and ARP LOL i got it right this time. ARP head studs. NO BOOST till i gather all the stuff. Ill be doing a Wild setup.
N/a on that ill be over 210 all motor. IF i were to boost on 10-12lbs there guys making 300whp on Stock ls bottom ends LMFAO. BUT if anything Ill run RS pistons get the rods shotpined. Block off the oil squirtor on the rod.
This is Im trying to figure out is TO run the water and oil pump off my b16 there both good BUT i heard that b16 pumps are NO good and Tend to Take a sHIT? so idk. Ill have to do some reseach.

06-13-2011, 10:16 PM
run a type r oil and water pump rendon they work equally the same and youre going to want to run a type r aftermarket timing belt.
otherwise you have to keep the ls water pump and oil pump as well as an ls timing belt.

MessyHonda
06-13-2011, 10:33 PM
yeah i would run type R pumps. unless you run super high compression i dont think the motor will do 210hp. the b18b1 makes 140 hp and the b16 makes 160hp.
Rendon LX-i
06-13-2011, 10:38 PM
O they do bro. My tuner just did one and he told me its easy to make 200whp on a lsv. i asked him how easy. HE said EASY LOL. b18b1 are a tq monster with b16a head. HE said to run ITR cams to make 240 easy but also remember he is a very good tuner. He made a poor mans stroker kit (H22a) using all used honda parts. still pulling strong waxes stis. He tuned plenty of Lsvs its not a problem for him and i belive him. He tune more cars then I blink LOL. NO but no i didnt belive it till i started reading on h-t.

Rendon LX-i
06-14-2011, 11:47 PM
Well I've been doing some research . I'll going to be using my b16a pistions in my ls block to give me a bit more compression. Idk if I can use my b16 craddle since the ls don't have one. On the water pump it can be either or from what I understand I can use my b16 water pump an oil pump but I have to use a gsr timing belt since the deck is higher.
People say this an that. I'm just going to have to do some measuring

Man that mount is close. I was thinking it might hit, but I guess it's bolted to the subframe, so it won't move, but the engine will move on it... So, are you the first person who has actually installed these mounts?
Rendon LX-i
06-20-2011, 10:52 PM
Idk. I haven't seen no pics but legends an his pic looks just the same. I might bang it a bit with a BFH . Just to give it some clearance

Badass man, good to see another b-swap. Hopefully I can actually get mine running soon. That brake line thing is kinda of a pain in the ass. Looks like those mounts are a little different then the PRI. My rear mount is not that close to the firewall, and my transmission mount bracket lines up with the holes in the side rail perfectly. They still look very similar.

I used Gsr head studs when I did my ls/v with a Gsr head. They are actually all the same, but personal preference wise I would go with the b16 to match the head.

I used the golden eagle oil sandwich, and a generic turbo line for the oil feed. I also had the head modified to fit a factory head gasket from an LS.

Did alittle today not much but I was figuring out the sensors. Well I taught that the sensors would be the same but there not as in engine temp sensor the rest should. I'm also took out my stock fan switch plug out an the fan plug it self. What I'm going to be doing is tap and die the civic rad. So I have it like stock an I won't have to run extended wire behind the bAy. Here some pics.
Stock b16 ECT sensor(on the left) an stock accord ECT(on the right) well it screws into the head no problem so easy money.

well a spring would theorhetically never need to be rebuilt (or at least less often than a hydro). but this could be argued. people don't seem to give it a lot of thought as if ones better than the other unless they're using a highlift cam. the extra lift is what wears out the old style (hydro) or prolonged use (high mileage). honda released the spring type later with a larger contact patch to increase protection to the cam. you can buy an even stronger spring type or you can go with the later model spring types from the itr/gsr and or h22.

Pat said it pretty detailed. Basically applying more pressure. But what we did is just took off the rockers an took the old LMA's out put a .40 thousands washer for the base depends on your wear on the cam. Slid in the h22 LMA's . It's up to you if want to do em. To MEE it felt way better an it's alot more quite also. Vtec sounded smooth.
Well I got me a 99 si p30 intake manifold. I have to drill a hole for the IAt since it's blank lol. I'm looking for a h22 tb but if not I'll get a omni 70mm

What year did Honda switch to the spring type LMAs? Sorry to be off topic, but I've been wondering WTF is going on with the ticking in my girlfriend's GSR on startup... i believe for the b16/itr/gsr the b16 first received them in the 99-00 revision. I'm not sure that the GSR ever had a redesign but you can buy aftermarket or use the h22 LMA's.

07-14-2011, 09:16 AM
What size are those valves?
I'd be tempted to do a full head skim just to make sure it's flat unless you've gone over 100% to check with the right tools. Certainly would be a bit carefull using a buffer on it.
I think you could gain a nice increase in flow with some work on the throats into the valve seats, and having the seats cut with a 1mm seat and have the valve matched and backcut to suit. Wouldn't cost much to do either.
Have you got a pic of the throats or ports at all?
Rendon LX-i
07-14-2011, 10:09 AM
Did a fuild test on each valve used a snap on straight edge to see what's the max clearance an it was in spec by far. Tools where provide by my school which I'm attending . I don't know the valve size but there in incredible shape. Head was in working order when I got it. I just wanted to clean things up. Jdm b16a heads are better then any head beside the c5 head which is the same but slighty ported not much. I'll upgrade the LMA's later an do th itr valve train down the road.
Rendon LX-i
07-14-2011, 10:13 AM
No pics I just snap shot when I had it mostly together. The throats where good as well. The fuild test was nice. Did it before an after which I had some loss in cc but that was due to carbon build up . But after clean an hot taking the head did some grinding in the throats not much just to take the debri out mostly out of the exhaust side. The intake side was super clean.

Are you trying to avoid welding the transmission mount? I would recommend against that, there is a lot of weight and power going against that one spot. Keep in mind there are no TQ, or front mounts to help with the weight distribution and TQ distribution. I only used the bolts to line it up, then welded that bad boy on.

Honestly ITBs are awesome for all motor, but you have to really invest in a full setup. Fully built head, and block plus an amazing tune. If you don't have that then you are wasting your time. You can get an AEBS intake manifold (identical to the skunk 2, or type R), and be ready to go with a solid reliable setup for half the price.

nope no gridle. not really needed. alot of lsv setups didnt have gridle. all that matters is that you swap out the rod bolts since there the same a a d series which cant withstand 8-9k revs. Get arp rod bolts and you can rev high as a gsr all day. Gridle just adds that extra security which is all up to you if you want to add it. Im not cause you would have to have it all redone at the machine shop and have a bigger oil clearance. B16a dont have a gridle and they rev to 8.5 all day its all in the rod bolts.
to awnser your question on the b20. NO there is no gridle on those motors. Only gsr's have gridles. ive been reading alot of lsv b20v setups an no gridle is needed for high revs just rod bolts cause they tend to loosen up and stretch out cause they cant withstand the rotating mass that is put on them. Save yourself the money an get some arp bolts total 50 bucks.

it don't matter what ecu he's using since he'll be running crome... probably like a p06 ecu, since they're the cheapest to chip..

I donno but i dont like the car at all really. it needs some motor work..seems to be a bad head gasket ..do i have a good start on a b series swap for my cookie ?

10-18-2011, 03:32 PM
I would say maybe.. depends on price... all you're gonna use from that is the engine, tranny, ecu.....

its not a easy swap most of the stuff will have to be custom. just do your research and be ready to spend money for unexpected stuff
