View Full Version : 904 watts = too much vibration

Help I just installed my new amp a Rockford 700s (which is tested at 904 watts rms) and my 2 12" HE2's. My problem is that I have so much vibration that my front bumper is rattling. Also my trunk lid is literally moving 1-2 inches outward. I have tried extreme dynomat (5 boxes to be exact) and nothing works. I also tried laying my seat down and I also turned my subs to face the cabin and nothing helps. If anyone can shed any light in to what I need to fix to stop the vibration then it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!! By the way I have a four door if that help.

get a smaller wattage amp. i am suprise that your back window is not broken.
i am pushing 200W into single Alpine type S and my trunk rattles a little even after dynamat.
man i can't imagine what it sounds in your car.
in my opinion, you went overboard with the power.

904W (RMS)????? You are the most insane bastard :flip:. hahahaha, 200W subs are more then enough esp in a closed cabing thats like 8 feet in length at the max. U better get a lower watt amp, or just dont turn it up a lot.

maybe my car broke down on me because it was fearing the dual 300w infinitys i hadn't gotten a box for yet... :)

I love my Infinity perfects if thats what you got. I put one it and it was more than enough for me. I am impressed and i could go for a better amp im running 2 memphis ST-300s for the subs and its great. I do need to sound dampen the trunk and work on the back deck (its a bit annoying)

Here's an Idea, how about you remove your back seat, then place subwoofers underneath it, this way, the seat would absorb some of the vibration, and it wouldn't take up any of your trunk space, I don't know if there is any room, but I'm sure you all could figure something out, let me know if that helps out any.

HEY PEOPLE! He already has the amp and subs so telling him to go to a weak-ass 200w single-sub setup isn't helping. He wants to keep his god-like bass and kill the rattle. Now what you own in terms of equipment is not meant for a "throw a box and amp in the trunk and call it done" type of installation. So if you want to make it sound good without vibration, you will need a permanent show-car type install. I see 3 options.

1 - Strip out the back seat, build a custom reinforced sealed box with the subs facing inside the cabin, make a plywood or mdf partition between trunk and cabin that your box is attached to to seal out the trunk and keep the lid from vibrating, Anchor the sub partition to the car's frame to keep it from vibrating, and then get out the silicone and seal anything else that rattles-i.e. the glass.

2 - If you MUST keep your seats, you can do the above only replace your seats with a rear folding bench maybe from an extended cab truck. This way if you need the seat you can use it, but otherwise keep it folded for bass enjoyment.

3 - You could also keep the stock seats and design a custom ported sub enclosure like a bandpass with the ports cut through the rear deck between your rear speakers (if they are there, i have a hatch so i wouldn't know.) Again, make sure your trunk is sealed out to stop rattle and your box is securely anchored to keep it from vibrating. Also especially with this one I would replace at least the rear glass with plexi or lexan or other plastic to prevent cracking. it sounds cool to say your system will break glass, but it isn't.;) :D

i have a legacy 1800 watt amp with two Thump 12's. the damn thing shakes the car soo much i can only turn it up with the hatch open and the doors open. i got a remote bass control and my deck has a sub level control so i just turn it down. i also have a 4 channel 1000 watt legacy for the speakers. i have the loudest system in my city... 56000 peeps. it is soooo loud and cheap. i paid 1900 canadian dollars for the whole thang. other guys are busting that on there subs and amps alone. i went cheap but i have nice sound and monsterous bass!!! i have two boxes... 1 6 cubic feet one and a 3 cube one. the big box is when i want the low 35hz bass and the other one is for daily driving! they both are loaded with woofers. i have jbl P1220's in the other box. massive woofers!!!!!! any way i dont know what else to tell you other than to turn it down when rollin... you shouldnt roll with that much bass any way cuz u could get all fucked up er somthin!! u could have a seizure or ur heart will stop... some crazy shit like that!

Loudest in the city is quite a claim, dx.

Well I would like to keep my back seat but I'm started to lean towards taking them out. What I think I'm going to do is to go with KaMiKaZeE 's idea and make a custom enclosure to house them where the rear seat should be. The subs are supposed to have 2 cubic feet for each and right now my current box is a little to small. Our trunks are just not big enough to hold a false floor, an amp, and that large of a box. What would you think of having commercial grade fiberglass sound deadner sprayed in or using the same stuff they sound proof studios with?

yes!!!! finially someone busts out with the high powered fosgate... nice job man... keep that shit... fosgate amps are amasing... it will tear up 90% of amps in its league... your never going to stop that shit from rattleing man... you would have to do soooo much work it just wouldnt be worth it... I have a 400w Interfire thats rated at 500+ watts and it rattles shit inside the front passenger and driver side doors... ya just have to get used to it... our cars are old and have a lot of rattling parts in it... just keep the screw that holds the trunk down tight... mine started to come loose...also try to find that spray foam shit that they use for home insulation... I think they have a car version that turns into a hard foam when it gets dry.....

you will never completely kill all the rattles... especially if you're running 904w RMS... a friend of mine in canada has a 3rd gen prelude he competes in SPL with... runs about 600 watts through 1 12" Kicker Solobaric L7, i believe, in a custom ported box... has the trunk completely covered in dynamat.... he rattles like no other when he bumps...

when you get over 1000 watts then holla at me.

I will rattle your rearview..............from 3 cars behind ya

a kicker comp vr wont handle shit let alone 1000 watts, so my guess is you got a crappy amp like DXHATCHBACK's legacy...

and for DXHATCHBACK, thats the biggest bullshit lie ive ever heard, haha 2 thump 12's(crap) with a legacy 1800 watt amp( more like 500) doin 150 something, MUAHAHAHAH!!!!, maybe if you did it in an outlaw comp. or where you can stick the mic right in the port, do it on the dash like a real man, i had to DD 3512's in a 5.5cuft box with 75sqin of port of a memphis 1000d(roughly 1200 watts with good voltage and i hit 148's dont tell me your cheap ghetto crap does better, i could rattle the sheet metal on car wash's across the street, now thats loud....

10-28-2002, 08:32 PM
say man aint nothin wrong wit comp vrs
they may not be in the class with DD's but they are great subs.
You wanna get nasty, talk to the L7, u know there's a 18" L7 comin out, try 100 pounds and 10,000 watts.tell that to your 3512's

n88accordLX-i
10-28-2002, 08:58 PM
man my 3512's were the lowest line DD made at the time and hung with almost every other brands high end subs, tell those punk ass L7's to say hi to a DD 9915

n88accordLX-i

i have yet to see a single 10" L7 hit a 169.8 like nate munson did with a single 9510, which is the second from the highest series, he also hit a 171.? with a 15" 9515, he didnt even have to use a 9915

I sure as hell wouldnt want to be near that car when they turned that shit up.... Talk about re-enforced winsheilds and windows and shit... Well all I know is that my 400w Interfire amp is rated at 430 something watts and it pushes my 2 600w 12" IMPP Pioneers pretty well... I didnt spend a lot of money on the system but its ok for now... My trunk rattles so damn much as it is... sounds like shit from outside the car... all you hear is rattleing....

JSid7
10-29-2002, 08:23 PM
well they do handle 1000 watts... and its that even about how many watts a speaker can handle...its about how much disortion there is... distortion is what blows speaker... i can take one of your 9937262 speaker and blow the piss outta it with 200 watts if there is too much distortion... if your some speaker god (which you are tryin to sound like, by dissin everyone) you woulda known that... you sound like a damn rookie to me that just looks at what hits the hardest and buys it, but doesnt really know anyting... and KaMiKaZeE i used to have a cerwin-vega dvc vega series 15... and i liked it, i had it in a 4 cubic foot ported box, with a fosgate 1000 watt amp... i just decided to switch things up a lil bit...

n88accordLX-i
10-29-2002, 09:51 PM
yeah thats funny.... sure you can put a 1000 watt amp on a comp vr, that doesnt meen its taking a full 1000watts, and yes i know distortion plays a part in blowing subs, but wattage is also a big factor, if i am the kind of person who looks at a sub that looks hard and buys it i would be bragging about the JL W7 which isnt much...and how old are you?....ive been in this shit for about 5 years so dont get into that "you dont know shit conversation"

tell me, what do the numbers 1728 meen to you? i meen if you know car audio you should know right?

tell me, how exactly does a ported box work if you know way more than me MR comp vr..

Tell me, how do you tune a ported box to a specific frequency?

tell me true or false, if 2 cars hit 140db is it the same loudness by ear?

:argue:

n88accordLX-i
10-29-2002, 09:54 PM
yeah so dont tell me you can put a full 1000watts on a comp vr without blowing it, even if there is a totaly clean signal it can blow, thats like saying "as long as i have a clean signal i can put a bajillion watts on this thump 12" and it wont blow" har har har!... so think again before you start tellin me i dont know shit, have fun frying some voice coils

n88accordLX-i
10-29-2002, 09:57 PM
oh and what is distortion caused by?... you guessed it, too much power...

your whole 200 watts blowing a sub example doesnt prove anything about distortion, thats called a clipped signal, from a weak amp trying to push more power than its able to, and that is what blows subs also...

n88accordLX-i
10-29-2002, 09:59 PM
well what did we learn kids?

"Too much power and clipped signal's blow subs"
