I know there are a hundred threads on this but it has not helped me none. I bought the car wrecked in the front end. It had been sitting for 6 years. Before i put the radiator in it it idled fine. I put a new radiator in it bleed the coolant few times. When you first start the car it idles about 2000 rpms. but when the car starts to warm up the idle goes up and down steady from 1200 to 2200. i have looked for vacume leaks. The valve on the back of the intake gets hot were the coolant is flowing through it. But when i screw the top in it does not change the way it is idling and just stops turning.

You need to determine if there is a vacuum leak somewhere. Look over all the vacuum hoses, and varify none are cracked. What your explaining sounds like a bad FIT valve, or IAC valve (the one you mentioned). A good test to verify the iac valve would be to remove it from the manifold and block the air ports, but make sure the electrical connection is still attached. If the idle problem sorts out, then the iac valve is the problem.

Also sounds like you have a bad iacv, the trying to die could be another problem as well.

My car does this when i turn it on for the first time in the day. Its annoying but i just run the bitch really hard one time and will go away. Figure my IACV is acting up but i havent bled the system fully yet so i could have a tiny bit of air in the system. gonna have to fix that soon but for now the car is just sitting more than being driven everyday.

It seems to be a little air starved with the IACV blocked completely. You might try punching some holes in the barrier, as a temporary measure.

Snooz I'm thinking the base idle may be adjusted a little to low.

With the iacv blocked disconnect the battery for about 2 min, then reconnect, start the car, and let it idle for about 5 min. Make sure to do all this at fully warmed temperatures.

The first one i had unhooked the battery for about five minutes. Then started it back up. Did not try to die this time. The second video is with 2 small holes block.2013-02-06_16-14-44_710.mp4 - YouTube (http://youtu.be/YYDe16v98m8)

Well that definitely narrows down the iacv as the problem, but I really think you base idle is set to low. Poking the holes basically makes a controlled vacuum is fixing ur idle issue.

It is hard to say, but I always start by cleaning. Be careful what you clean it with, brake/carb cleaner could damage it. Try using some rubbing alcohol, soak the valve in it for a couple hours. Should help break down all the carbon in there. An air hose will really help get everything out of there.

also make sure your coolant system has no air in it.

I've had some success using MAF Sensor cleaner on IACVs.

Glad you got it fixed.
