I took apart the distributor and saw that one of the centrifugal advance spring is slack on the post of the weight.

Is this normal cause the rotor arm when rotated by hand is kinda soft -

Any ideas

I've never seen the advance springs... I thought our distributors was strictly vacuum advance, not mechanical.
anyways I know the stators on both sides of the reluctor (rotor) can move fairly easily and the Reluctor itself spins freely.

You see, I told you guys there was an A16A engine.

For the 1.6L distributor, you can check directly from the shop manual on this website.

night u mean at idle! Next time u guys check ur timing, after u set vacuum advance correctly, rev engine slowly and look through the hole at the red mark, it should slowly disappear going CCW or advancing. If it goes CW only (or CW and then CCW) then centrifugal advance is frozen or sticky. This is the rotor (and reluctor) shaft which should rotate ~10* on the main distributor shaft. Another test could be done with engine off, remove the cap and try rotating the rotor CW, ~10*.

The thicker one should be slack and the thinner one should be tight.

I would be leery to get that distributor from Majestic.

a20a1, that pic doesn't show the advance. If you have a spare distributor around remove assembly #2 in that pic and you'll be looking right at them.

Thanx guys

I checked in with a local speed shop - they said that it was a primary and secondary thing the tight one advances till 2800 rpm and the secondary (slack) swings in above 3000 rpm. totally advancing it about 17 or 20 degrees.
