My instrument cluster half died. The Fuel gauge and Tachometer work. But not my speedometer. I live in Tucson, AZ and we have traffic cameras pretty much on all major intersections. Plus street vans with cameras at random places, they always change. So while I replace my instrument cluster, I would like to know what RPMS I would be going at 50 mph on 4th gear. I can go with the flow, but this cameras will flash if going 11 over the posted speed limit. Just by experience, I have been driving when the posted sped is 50, at 2k rpms. But if you guys have the chance to peak at your tachometer when going a steady 50, please let me know so I can do my best to avoid getting a $200 plus ticket.

Thank you in advance!

harder to say with an automatic since there is probably around 500rpm of 'play' depending on the load on the car. on mine, just under 3000rpm was 60mph, so probably around 2500-2600rpm would be 50mph cruising. did your speedo cable snap?

Your best bet is to get a friend to drive next to you while on a phone together. Then you can get him to tell you how fast your going.

Thanks for the reply, haven't gotten a chance to see what the problem is, but the needle that indicates the speed was jumpy. It wasn't steady at all. The day it started doing that, I did hear something snap inside the cluster. Then just the other day when starting it to go to work it just didn't move, and hasn't since.

So I am probably going to take your suggestion and have a friend drive in front of me at different speeds and go with that. Thanks again for replying!

A gps comes in handy for this.

There are gadgets that I can buy that display the speed on the windshield. Or a phone ap. But for $30 dls on ebay I will just buy the cluster and get it done. In the meantime I'll just research possible repair solutions and use my tachometer for reference.

If you have a smartphone with GPS you download a free gps speedometer app

highway cruising, 80mph is about 3200 rpm for my auto.
