I basically have everything lined out with the car. Got most everything mechanically up to par on the car. Now I'm gonna start working on improving gas mileage, and comfort within then car. Picked up a narrow-band air fuel ratio meter, and I've got a greddy emanage to start tuning the ecu for better gas mileage.

Instresting. Let us know how it goes I'm surprised how well my mpg's are with sure low geared trans

That's what I love about the vtec motors, you can tune for nice gas mileage and high HP.

Excellent. I'll keep an eye on this thread because I am searching for the same goal. But my experience as a tuner is very limited.

I wish I had those skills, but I'm gonna have to make that a far future goal lol. Fuel injection cars are far more difficult to do gas vapor.


Excellent. I'll keep an eye on this thread because I am searching for the same goal. But my experience as a tuner is very limited.

I'll post more progress as it comes along, I have limited tuning ability but with the data logging I can keep a close eye on the fuel usage. I will also be able to have a tune for summer, and winter.

I don't know how to apply this to your secific project, but I am going to shoot it anyway.

The Autotune function in a Megasquirt works very well. But it will always put you in the "safe" side. So you can't really get a fuel economy-oriented tune.
What I did to overcome this was to put an extra electric load in the engine (a coffee heater?) while running autotune.
I got 19 MPG city drive and 30 MPG highway drive, just like any other time I ran autotune before.

But then I removed the extra load and jumped to 24 MPG city drive and highway drive - ? not tested yet. And you know I have hundreds of logs to prove it.

Whatever will be your tuning method. Try the normal way, then try adding the extra electrical load, tune the best you can, remove the load, and will automatically get a leaner tune. Does it make sense for everyone?

My vaporization project is still alive. I will combine 1 part of fuel vapor and 2 parts of water vapor to create Natural Gas/Methane. I have all the hardware ready for installation in the car. As I said before, its still too cold to be lay down on the cold floor.

I don't think my software has an auto tune feature. I was gonna start with the factory basemap, then start leaning out the fuel from there. I'm gonna have to get a wide band o2 so I can closely watch the air/fuel. My current tune is set for max HP/Tq at 4,000 rpms and up. Turns out I should have set it at about 4500 rpms, my highway speeds keep me right about there.

That's just the gear ratio for the LS transmission at 70mph

I'm actually running a b20 from a crv, completely different setup from yours. Not worried about the engine wearing out, but it definitely does not help with the mpg. The LS is the largest geared of all the b-series transmissions.

That's a good engine but 4500 would drive me nuts lol im so used to cruising at 2800/3000 lol my wifes mazda 2.0 cruises at 3100 in 5th and I can't stand to drive it long it sounds like 5000!l

wow that really high at 4500 im almost doing 90mph with a LS 5th gear on my YS1 cable
