Well guys after looking around some and finding what I really want, I guess I will be doing a B20A build on an 88 LXi Hatch instead of my 87 4 door. I just couldn't get motivated on the 4 door. Loved the car and have done a lot of work to it but time to wrap it up by finishing the paint and body on it and finding anew home for her and get started on my new project below. When I do get ready to part ways with the 87 I'll be sure to put it up here first so I know it'll go to a good home.

I don't think I've ever seen a maroon hatchback in real life and the only other one I remember seeing was Bitesize's. Thats nice!

Thanks guys. Put the tires and rims off of my 87 on it already. Makes it look a lot different and definitely makes it ride better than those basketball's it had on it. I'll post a pic later.

No louvers Guy. Don't think I'll put them on it either. Had a Mustang once with them and it was hard to see out of.

I love them, always use side mirrors myself. I remember one night before I got them a tallboy pickup got on my tail and it was quite uncomfortable, everyone in the car was lit up like a sears portrait studio lol i couldn't see a dang thing.

Very nice hatch there! Those wheels look great on it. The finish on the car looks very good. Is that the original paint finish? If so, the exterior has obviously been taken good care of.

I was told it is original paint it was garage kept it's first 23 years. The guy I got it from said the original owner had it in his garage 8 years with a broken timing belt and was going to call the junkyard to come haul it off...he asked how much and the guy gave it to him.

Got a new stereo system in it and fixed some minor things, brakes, upper control arms and a strut. Next is lowering springs and a cv boot. Found what trim pieces were loose when I put the system in it and it made them rattle lol

Cool. I'm probably going to need a 5 speed sooner or later it's got the 5th gear whine going on but it's not too bad yet and even better now since I put oil in it instead of ATF.

Yeah I usually run with the back seat up but we were messing with our pain in the a** neighbors that just let their ankle biters bark and bark and bark while we're trying to work in the yard. Nothing like hearing 5 wiener dogs continuously bark for 15 to 20 minutes straight while their mouth breathing owner stands there and lets them. So that's my kind of payback. Sigh I miss the race car at midnight when they'd piss me off lol. In all honestly it only lowered the rear about a 1/2 to 3/4" the rear springs were so shot out. the front it lowered the 2 1/2 or so. The back is higher than the front now which I think is how it's supposed to be and I have to step up when I get out now instead of feeling like I'm driving a 4 wheel drive accord. It's actually into the road now. It may not look as low as some others but it may be because I'm running tires that are pretty close to the stock size. I think their like 1/2 an inch taller only than my stock 13" tires were. 195/50R16.

It does not.....yet. I got a B20A and 5 speed in the garage, that I got for the 4 door, but instead I will be putting in this hatch. Got 2 cars to paint first though so it may be winter or later before I can do it. Sucks I don't really have any buddies that know Hondas to come help me knock it out in a weekend or I'd do it real quick.

Well put sway bars on. Wow what a difference. I'm sure having the camber adjusted right helps but no noticeable body roll. Also built a splitter and put on some fog lights. May have to build some more bracing. Still trying to decide if I like it or not. Part of me does and part of me doesn't. What you all think?

You're gonna love it once its aligned. After I got mine done I was concerned but once the alignment was set it was amazing.still haven't been able to push it much yet since the tires hit in the back a lot and lost the power steering.. Cant wait to get that square away ... New tires, rack & hoses.

apache07x
06-12-2013, 03:24 AM
I think I have it aligned pretty well. Didn't mess with the caster but I did set the toe and camber. Seems to drive fine, no pulling or tire scrubbing noise like they'll do when something is messed up. Now I got to figure out what the heck is wrong with the cruise control. It doesn't work at all. Changed the switch on the dash and it lights up but it won't set. Not sure what to do there since changing parts can get expensive.

apache07x
06-14-2013, 02:45 AM
Well got the cruise to work. Typical problem for a 5 spd. Plastic button that depresses the clutch switch was missing. I took a plastic piece that is used to hold door panels and such in place on ford's and gm's like a plastic nail lol and put it in the hole. Perfect fit and now my cruise works. Just have to change the bulbs in the switch.

Did some reading on here and have to thank lostforawhile for that tip. Even though my fix was a bit different from his.

apache07x
06-17-2013, 05:12 AM
Decided to add a little more bracing to my splitter. Wind going down the highway wanted to push the splitter upwards so I got the proper bracing and in conjunction with what I had on the car for braces it is a lot more solid. As a bonus they screwed right into the factory bolt holes for the bumper cover so I didn't have to drill the bumper. I did have to get creative though and fab some extensions out of some round stock. Haven't decided if I should take them back off and paint them black yet.

Vanilla Sky
06-17-2013, 08:06 PM
Are you going for performance or looks with that splitter?

apache07x
06-18-2013, 04:08 AM
Are you going for performance or looks with that splitter?

Just looks. I didn't want a body kit like my sedan has I wanted something different that not everyone has. All it will do performance wise is chew up more gas I imagine. If I raced it I guess it might help the front get a little more grip though. But definitely not taking it on the circle track unless it's at New Smyrna for a spectators race when there's only 4 or 5 cars on track and I can check out on all of them. But they probably won't let me since I raced mod minis for 10 years.

Figured I would be hunting a new front bumper cover if I didn't like it. Thank goodness I did.

I personally think it looks a lot better. Was just something I wanted to do to make it look a little different from everyone else. Didn't want to do a body kit like my sedan. I took the bumper cover all of the way off and used a piece of 1/8" ABS plastic. It follows the contour of the front bumper and with ABS you can heat it up and shape it if needed. Here's a couple pics of the work getting done.

Decided to do LEDs in the dash. I got part of it done and waiting on bulbs to do the rest. Here's what it looks like so far. Pretty cool. Looks different than stock and is really a lot brighter.

http://imageshack.us/scaled/medium/109/qzrc.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/109/qzrc.jpg/)

It is done now and here is what it took:

It took (5) super white 194 bulbs with a 360 degree angle (2) super white 74 bulbs with a 360 degree angle. Cruise switch took a 8mm green and a 10mm super white neo wedge. The 3 switches to the right....dimmer etc took all super white neo wedge bulbs (2) 8mm and (2) 10mm.

Now the climate controls will make you wish you hadn't started this project and/or make you rip your hair out. The reason being is the fan switch and temperature control take a weird bulb that you can't get in an LED at this time but a T4 / (10mm) neo wedge will fit in the hole and lock in. The problem is the board doesn't supply power to the bulbs like it does a normal neo wedge. The board supplies power like it would to a 194 or 74 twist lock (IE to the sides and not the bottom like a neo wedge normally does). My final solution..... I took the little board off of the back of the switches and broke the plug out of the board and cut the plug off of the harness. I super glued the remainder of the board back in place on the switches. Then I took (2) 10mm neo wedge bulbs and straightened the leads out on them and soldered wires (18 gauge) to them about 3 inches long made sure they lit up, checked polarity on both the bulbs and the wiring harness in the dash and installed them. For the wiring I stripped the wires in the dash back and used wire nuts to tie them all together in case one ever needs changed. I didn't take any pics of what I soldered up or anything but I can take a few pics if anyone needs me to.

Okay now the buttons on climate control all super white. Took a 10mm neo wedge, an 8mm neo wedge, both short as possible had to get these off of ebay, and a 74 with a 360 degree angle. They all light up and work. there are a couple of buttons a little brighter but I don't think you could do any different with the way the buttons are set up.

I need (11) 74 bulbs 120 or 360 angle with twist locks if I want to do all of the indicator lights on the dash but probably won't since their not lit all of the time.

Here's what it looks like now. Got it as best I could in one pic.

Yes that is the kitchen sink lol.

And over the course of the last week I got some Sei parts namely a better cupholder, disc brakes and armrest to put in her too. I also finished up the LEDs in the dash. I'll post more on that later. Probably in the previous post on this thread so it's all in one spot.

Ole red will look good once it's all done. I got a vision in my twisted little brain. Would've been awesome if I could've color matched it with the body though.

Yeah and no seat belt dings in the door panels anymore either.

He color matched the seats and upper rails on the front and back of the door / rear panels. Their not the same color as the the rest of the interior but they not so far off they look out of place either.

Windows got tinted today too. I was going to do them myself but decided I'd rather have someone who does it for a living do them instead. Cost 135. I'd of spent half of that on tint and it wouldn't have looked as good with me doing it.

Thanks for the compliment on the seats and progress.

Thank you Snooz. I also fixed a little rust behind the mirror. Temp fix at least we'll see how she holds up. Be a couple years before I paint her most likely. I took the dremel and ground out to bare metal, although some still looked tarnished a bit. Then hit it with the rustoleum primer for rusty metal and sealed it up with some black epoxy paint then ran a bead of clear silicone around the perimeter of the mirror gasket. Hopefully it halts the rust if not time for a new shell if their still available or some clever body work on my part.

Finally got my center console all painted up with SEM products and installed. Here's a couple shots of my new interior. Only thing I need is a good carpet, from a donor car, in the hatch area or have someone make me one. It doesn't look bad now unless you really look, but I know it's not the right one, it's from a sedan and cut to fit.

That's Hot ! I really like the cord trim on the seats being the grey, sets off the whole look with the seats in.

Thank you. Really trying to get her show quality. Getting there slowly Dennis' car is my inspiration so I have a ways to go.

Adjusted the timing and re-gapped the plugs today went from 25 to 30 mpg highway with the air on. Was only getting 21 when I first got her.

Drove to Daytona Beach today and turned a lot of heads. Here's a picture at Ormond Beach today.

I actually did something I never do on Saturday. I took it to Honda and let them service it. For $14.95 though I couldn't buy oil and a filter for that. So I don't know what they put in it to be honest.

Well installed Sei disc brakes in the rear and also installed adjustable rear uca's which it really needed since my old stock ones were wore out. Haven't test drove it yet since I still have to adjust the rear camber but the pedal feels good and it stops well in the driveway. Lol

26 mpg in town now since adjusting the timing and plug gap. That was partly with air and mostly with drum brakes so it may be better now. Either way I'm pretty happy with 26 in town.

Well 5th gear went out. Guess that's my cue to do the B20A swap when I get time to in a couple years. In the meantime I guess I'm without a car

Think I'm going to root around this weekend and put a transmission in it for now. Tired of looking at it sitting in the carport not running.

Well I think she looks pretty good after installing the Prelude control arms and getting a 4 wheel alignment. Also just got through freshening up a Prelude 5 speed and installing it as well as a rear main seal, oil pan gasket and clutch assembly.

Well for anyone following this thread I'm thinking about selling this car. Looking to get about $3500 for it the way it sits. I have a B20A and 5 spd also I can get rid of. Just finding I don't have time for it. I've taken up other hobbies that consume a lot of my time, I have a new Ridgeline that gets drove mostly and this ole girl just sits. Kind if hate to get rid of it I've put a lot of time and money in it but I'd rather it get rid of it to someone who wants to drive it or at least show it at car shows or something than sit in my yard, carport or garage. It runs and drives well. AC needs charged but other than that everything works. Interior is redone, lowered, just put a lude transmission in it along with a rear main and pan gasket, all aftermarket sway bars springs etc. new muffler, front strut brace, rear disc brakes and on and on not rusted or beat up. Have a rear wing too that I never put on.

Let me know if anyone is interested!

Yeah I've got too many too. I want to get rid of at least one of the 3gs, if not both, and just keep the Ridgeline, my company truck and my wife's beater. Only thing we drive anymore is the Ridgeline and I use the company truck for work. Getting older need to save for retirement not spend money on toys. I spend way too much on my other hobbies and I'm not quitting my triathlons and my other events. Or giving up my season tickets for football. So cars have to go! Lol
