Got the bushing in 3/4 of the way, and then the bolts started failing. It worked pretty damn well up to that point. I have a feeling the problem is that the bushing may not have been going in perfectly strait. I used a grade a, hardened steal bolt (and washers) and it snapped right in half. Just thought I would share to see if anybody had any pointers to possibly make this work.

I think you want to slather everything up with grease before trying to press bushings in. A 4# sledge hammer and a properly sized socket would be my tools of choice. Of course, you might have to pull the knuckle to do that. Doesn't Autozone rent a bushing installation tool?

Edit: here it is. Try this one.

Gonna go pick one of those up, just seeing if it was possible with what I had.

Use the largest diameter bolt you can fit in there. Make sure it's a fine thread grade 8 or higher. Grease the threads and then try it.

Went by AutoZone, and checked this out. It is huge, no way it will work with the suspension installed.

I discovered it's best to take more apart to make these suspensions cooperate :)

Ended up using a large socket, a thick washer, and a hammer to bang it in. Had to drimmel out some imperfections in the metal. Went in with little effort.

Sweet! People don't want to believe me about setting your own bushings and bearings that way. It sure beats running around town looking for someone with a press though.

I was surprised the passenger side went in with 5 hammer swings. Definitely better then removing the suspension and taking it somewhere.
