could you tell is was completely separated like that before you took it off.

I could. Every time I put it in reverse and started moving the whole shifter would jump forward and backward. It would also move when I let off the gas and it was still in gear. Now though, my rear drivers side tire sounds like the bearing is going bad. :-\
