I saw this (http://www.3geez.com/forum/frequently-asked-questions/35970-5-speed-transmission-codes-ratios.html) but it didn't list the ratios for the a2q5.

my 88lxi came with an e2q5 and I got an a2q5 at a junkyard and have been running it for quite sometime. The speedo is 4mph fast and the car is a bit peppier so I assume the ratios are lower or the Final drive is lower in the a2q5 but am unsure. I am about to rebuilt the e2q5 but want to know what I am going to lose when I put it back in.

I took apart my old E2Q5 and it looks like everything is 100% except the spider gears. Does anyone have a source for these? Still trying to figure out what is different between these two transmissions.

From the 1987 Accord FSM

1st - 3.181
2nd - 1.842
3rd - 1.208
4th - .878
5th - .694
Reverse - 3.000

Final A2Q5 - 4.066
Final A2Q6 - 3.866

I did not realize this maybe in the FSM. This is what I have in my 86 FSM:

1st - 3.181
2nd - 1.842
3rd - 1.25
4th - .937
5th - .711
Reverse - 3.000

And my 89 FSM for the LXI:

1st - 3.272
2nd - 1.842
3rd - 1.208
4th - .878
5th - .694
Reverse - 3.000

Looks like that taller 5th gear in my old transmissions is why my Speedo is off on the highway in 5th. Time to get it back together.

I would think the final drive would be what affects the speedo, that's how it works on most cars anyway. I wonder if the gear on the bottom of the speed sensor is different depending in which transmission is in the car.

I wasn't thinking correctly I don't even think the final drive effects the speedo. The speed is driven off the diff carrier which spins at the same speed as the wheels assuming no slip through the spider gears. So even a different final drive wouldn't effect the speedo gearing as the final drive is upstream from the speedo gearing. In other words I need to look other places for my speedo being off, but it would be nice to have some lower revs at 80mph (speed limit of west-Texas highways) which the lower 5th gear will give me assuming my E2q5 has a lower 5th than the A2Q5

you can change speedo drives. some of them have a different number of teeth therefore changing the speedo.
