A new thread for my other Accord. Just like the title says, it's a 1985 Accord LX that has something in common with my '88 Accord...it needs a lot of work. The first order of business after replacing the entire exhaust system was to replace the windshield, the dented driver's side front fender, and the front panel above the grill. Next I ordered and installed a K&N air filter. I've also replaced the outer tie rod end on the driver's side, but the inner piece also needs to be replaced. At this point in time I'm on a minor D.I.Y. project cleaning, sanding, and painting all four steelies. I've got the center sections of the two front wheels painted at this time. The back wheels will be painted this weekend.

I've been hunting for other 2nd Gen parts at the junkyards and so far I've gotten my hands on the trunk emblem, the factory tape deck, and the factory equalizer from a 1983 Accord Special Edition.

I've also taken the trunk emblem from a 1985 Accord SE-i, and plan on going back to take the fuel injection system from the same SE-i.

You got yourself another handful there. Good luck with it.

Nice dude! If you take that fuel injection system, you better take that cylinder head too. The heads on the carb and SEi are different. That intake manifold sadly won't bolt onto the ES2 motor. Killer find on that 83 SE though. Never have seen one in real life.

If you're going to go so far as to convert to fuel injection, also consider that an A20 makes an extra 15-20hp over the SEi, and the only extra work will be putting in is the bottom end. Swapping over the EFI stuff will pretty much be the same amount of work. Also, there are more parts and options for souping up the A20 than the ES3, like being able to run a B-series intake manifold, and things like that... :)

Thanks for the "heads up" on the cylinder head issue. Your Accord is definitely one of the "2nd Gens" that I get my inspiration from. I'm currently searching the forum for any advice or information on dropping the ES3 cylinder head on the ES2. As far as full-blown engine swaps, for some odd reason I'd sorta like to keep the original engine series in my '85. I want this Accord to be a simple cruiser that looks nice, and save the horsepower modifications for the CA6.

The next thing I'll be doing is going back to the junkyard for the '83 Special Edition passenger side doors. Meanwhile I'm struggling with the radio and the equalizer from the '83 Special Edition.

So far I've managed to get the equalizer wired up enough to the point it works, although it stays on continously as long as it's connected. The radio that the equalizer came with also has some sort of short in the wiring harness that I'll try to fix.

There's not really much info on the swap. Only thing I know is that the ES3 head should bolt onto the block. I'm pretty positive that the blocks are identical. And I'm pretty sure the head gaskets are the same between the ES2 and ES3. Keep us posted on your progress!

Just a little update on the '85. I replaced the two dented passenger-side doors and replaced the brake booster, but after the brake booster replacement I've probably got some sort of vacuum leak somewhere that I'm unable to find. Now when I start the Accord, the RPM is at a constant 3,000 plus.

Looks like a fun project. Totally jealous of the head unit and equalizer you got there.

Nice find on the equalizer! I wish my 85 SEi had one!

I had no idea the second gens had fuel injection, great find!
