Is it an 86-87 or an 88-89?

It's an 89 sei.

It's gonna be real hard to say on that. Start by looking at the basic stuff. When was your last tuneup? What grade of gas are you using? Etc.

I'd make sure base idle is set correctly. 88 and 89 have an iacv valve, and it will try to hold idle at the correct speed, but if the base idle is set too low (or lowers on its own due to carbon buildup in the throttle body) it won't be able to react fast enough when things change like a/c kicking or or off or changing from park to drive, etc. disconnect the iacv connect and see if the thing will idle with all accessories off. If not, adjust the idle screw until you get the specs in the fsm and reconnect the iacv.

Yeah she usually idles at just under 1000,new plugs last fall.I think i'll try cleaning the throttle body or maybe seafoam it.the only thing i haven't checked is the dizzy because screws look corroded and the only way i can see to get the cap off is to take the dizzy out and cut the cap off so i can heat up the bolts to get them out without breaking them.

I'd use an impact screwdriver myself, with a good soaking in PB Blaster first.

also make sure you dont have any air in your coolent system because it might affect your IACV. a good cleaning of the TB should be able to help you with your idle problem
