a better shot of the driverside, free or major damage, but that paint... yuck
So yea, thats about it... I'm planning on building this car for Street Touring Compact (or is it classic?) to race in the SCCA. Needs lots of work, and about 10k will get it there... Its main crown jewel is going to be the suspension... I'm thinking custom AST coilovers with some digressive valving for the bumpy courses out here... What ya'll think?

Spent a good 1 and half hours cleaning the interior out since it was such a mess, found some dissapointing things, but also found some things that aren't broken that typically are! But either way, here are the pictures take with my phone...

so a couple of weeks ago I removed the head to get it machined and personally found 5 out of 8 valves leaking...

http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x319/hondalude86/IMG_20130625_205113_453_zps5b79b5f3.jpg (http://s180.photobucket.com/user/hondalude86/media/IMG_20130625_205113_453_zps5b79b5f3.jpg.html)
part way through the removal of the head...

http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x319/hondalude86/IMG_20130627_202000_036_zpsae9a5d2a.jpg (http://s180.photobucket.com/user/hondalude86/media/IMG_20130627_202000_036_zpsae9a5d2a.jpg.html)
pulled the head with the intake manifold attached, thought it might make it easier to disassemble the intake, turns out it is much easier than I remember...

http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x319/hondalude86/IMG_20130627_203953_311_zps4f7a666e.jpg (http://s180.photobucket.com/user/hondalude86/media/IMG_20130627_203953_311_zps4f7a666e.jpg.html)
the B1s are the valves that are for sure bent... the b's were still leaking...exhaust all gravy though, no leaks

http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x319/hondalude86/IMG_20130627_203941_258_zpsac10decf.jpg (http://s180.photobucket.com/user/hondalude86/media/IMG_20130627_203941_258_zpsac10decf.jpg.html)
kinda how its sitting right now, all ugly... yucky. I will say however, the cylinders have NO grooving, I'm expecting that the motor is going to run great, despite the mileage... Hence why I opted to actually spend money on this head rather than just replacing the valves myself and calling good for a while...

http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x319/hondalude86/IMG_20130706_215255_695_zpse9f9791f.jpg (http://s180.photobucket.com/user/hondalude86/media/IMG_20130706_215255_695_zpse9f9791f.jpg.html)
the head, cleaned up the cam journals, new intake valves, new valve stem seals, new intake valve seats... with 202K miles, he was extremely impressed with how good of shape the head was, minus all the bent valves...

http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x319/hondalude86/IMG_20130706_215237_819_zpsa4a0700c.jpg (http://s180.photobucket.com/user/hondalude86/media/IMG_20130706_215237_819_zpsa4a0700c.jpg.html)
BAM! Money shot!!! all the pretty valves, and 1mm taken off the head per my request...

It was once said that 1mm off of an a20 head will increase compression by 1 point, ex, a20a3 has 8.8:1 compression, removal of 1mm would increase that to approx. 9.8:1... Now if the very same is true (actually has a slightly higher increase than the previously mentioned 1 point) with a starting value of 9.1:1 compression (pretty sure, but not 100%) with my 1mm taken off, I should be at least at 10.1:1 compression ratio! Still alot off the head, but think of it this way... stock compression ratio on an obd0/1 b16a is 10.2:1... Point is, this should give me a great starting point for this STC car...

By the numbers it's more like 0.8 points per mm, but it's all approximate anyway. You should be right about 10:1. That head does look in very good condition for the miles. How are the rocker trunnions?

The entire valve train looks good. I honesty carry believe the condition it's in mechanically. Wish the exterior was this nice lol, but I'll take any win i can! Might be building an all motor b series for my other red prelude, and if I do (leaning towards it heavily), this car maybe a little mpg dd for awhile... I may do stuff to it here in there but i doubt I'll be spending 3k on coilovers this year! I will most likely start with some basic motor upgrades and little interior bits. Save the biggest upgrades for later...

Don't forget the bore size is 80mm not 82.7mm so the increase in CR ratio won't be as much by just skimming head, if you bored it out and put in 83mm pistons then yes skimming 1mm off the head would get you something pretty high like 10.2:1 or bit more. My next engine will have .5mm off the block 1.5mm off the head and A20A4 pistons which should get me after I've deshrouded the chambers around 12:1 CR ratio probably not far off that now at around 11.5:1 now. Have to replace head gaskets on a regular basis is the only issue the Ajusa ones only last a couple of thousand miles the Felpro ones are much tougher but hard to get and expensive in comparison. Will save the one I do have for a much more hardcore build and probably for the red car's new/spare engine.

That head is amazing condition though and your lucky it's an ET2 I'd be seriously considering a rebore with some cheap NPR pistons for $80 with new rings and pins, set of new bearings and you'd have a seriously good high comp motor you can use stock carbs still with a half decent camshaft you'd easily make 135-140bhp and 140lbft torque at ground level.

Or use this head on the openloop block with the ET inlet manifold you had on before! lol! I'm sure the odd shape of the ET engine seems to work better with Webers, before my A20 engine just felt a little lack lustre maybe it was the lower compression so hopefully yours will be better all my previous engines all had ET1 or ET/A18 heads so were quite high compression the A20 had big valves and everything else but the chambers were std size apart from a .5mm skim if it had more skimmed off or chambers welded up like openloops it could have maybe performed better! But my favourite still was that ET1 I had with the very short runners on the inlet manifold for the webers that engine was sweet even though it was a lowish CR ratio 10:1 roughly it pulled so well with just a 272 degree camshaft just a shame I can't get any more head gaskets for it, and also I only have one block left that isn't damged for ET and that's currently the original engine in the red car the other one I have needs a bore repaired as it has a 1mm deep gouge down it, it's already at 82.7mm so needs to be sleeved not sure if it could be welded and rebored.

Again, it must have been late for you in the UK. I've got an a18a1. Shaved head, golden eagle cam gear (to adjust for the shaved head), and a little mad blaster2 coil. Still need to do my full exhaust, but that will have to wait till I get moved around here in a couple of months. When I move motors around, I may install my colt triflo in my a18 motor... rejet the carbs and call it good for awhile. Cars been a great commuter with the gaz coilovers, the new 15x8 wheels, and bombing stereo. Even did some minor lighting upgrades to the car in the form of some auto pals, new silver stars, and led corner light bulbs! Been a fun car. I think I've driven the del Sol once in the last 6 weeks...

Current mods list??? hahaha

Shaved Head
Golden Eagle Cam gear (to compensate for the shaved head)
K&N Drop in filter

Spoon Sports Duracon Shift knob
Vintage Momo Corse Seat

GAZ 1.5way adjustable coilovers
15x8 +35mm et Traklite wheels

Waiting for install...

Addco rear sway bar (getting powder coated)
Si rear brake calipers (getting powder coated)
Nardi Personal steering wheel (need steering boss)

Have really been enjoying this car! I have tons of little plans to make this thing an enjoyable daily for a while. As far as its future goes, I'm not sure what's going to happen. Once I get all moved and settled in... I've got 2 a20's laying around. A full drivetrain upgrade may be possible, but I'm thinking simple. With what I've got laying around the house, I'm thinking obx header, magnaflow high flow to a vibrant ss resonator through t-304 stainless piping to a SS Vibrant Muffler. Re-jetting the carbs, Colt tri-flow cam and just leaving it like that power wise! Get my rear sway bar on, get some SE-i accord hubs and swap in my short geared trans with my lightweight flywheel, clutch and pressure plate, and get some Wilwood calipers for the front! Truely beyond that, I think this car is going to be set for a while...

A little mini update... Got the colt tri flow cam in, along with the obx header, thrush resonator, and vibrant twin tip muffler. Removed the silly screens and so far the car feels pretty peppy. Have yet to install my rear sway bar, but ultimately this car has been a blast to drive around, handles fucking great, and looks good. Oh yeah, I also smoked my front corner lenses and front signals... Looks a little better.

So I'm working on a huge update right now, I'm about Half way through the work right now, with my work schedule the way it is, it probably wont be complete for another 2 weeks or so... but I want to give you guys a basic teaser update... but during this update, I have found something very epic. but without completely spoiling all the surprises I'll post the discovery in a later installment. Here is what I can tell you and show you...
I have been having some cooling issues cruising on the highway through the hills with the heater off, once I turn the heater on, the car cools right down. With a move pending to a NoCar garage, I decided that it would be a good idea to knock a whole bunch of stuff out while the car is down and I still have a huge garage. I decided that I probably should install a new Waterpump and thermostat since I have no idea how long it has been changed. After checking everything out, it looks like it might actually be my radiator that is the culprit, the bottom side of the passenger side is fairly damp, so I'll have to order a radiator (which I haven't done yet). One thing kind of led to another... I decided to install my lightweight flywheel and clutch I have laying around,

which led to a new rear main seal,
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x319/hondalude86/Ba-A18/IMAG0048_zpsdbfmuua2.jpg (http://s180.photobucket.com/user/hondalude86/media/Ba-A18/IMAG0048_zpsdbfmuua2.jpg.html)
then that led to swapping in my cg/hybrid trans,
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x319/hondalude86/Ba-A18/IMAG0054_zpswkhlywdm.jpg (http://s180.photobucket.com/user/hondalude86/media/Ba-A18/IMAG0054_zpswkhlywdm.jpg.html),which led to installing some upgraded motor mounts,
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x319/hondalude86/Ba-A18/IMAG0055_zpsca6anm8y.jpg (http://s180.photobucket.com/user/hondalude86/media/Ba-A18/IMAG0055_zpsca6anm8y.jpg.html) which led to my baffelled oil pan. Being that my brake pad were all toast front and rear, and that I'm running SE-i Hubs, I guess its time to revamp the brakes, and since I'm doing that, I might as well as rebuild and install a set of Si rear Calipers I've got laying around,
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x319/hondalude86/Ba-A18/IMAG0033_zps8ysub4ty.jpg (http://s180.photobucket.com/user/hondalude86/media/Ba-A18/IMAG0033_zps8ysub4ty.jpg.html)

and maybe refresh the rear suspension while I'm at it too, and maybe install some sweet baller rear radius rods,
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x319/hondalude86/Ba-A18/IMAG0030_zpsiqrbnrrk.jpg (http://s180.photobucket.com/user/hondalude86/media/Ba-A18/IMAG0030_zpsiqrbnrrk.jpg.html) and hell how about my Addco Rear sway bar too.. Oh and new brakes cant be installed without also installing some Goodrich Stainless lines all around. Noticed I had a single pair of 15x9 wheels laying around, looking lonely, maybe they need another pair to keep them company.
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x319/hondalude86/Ba-A18/Screenshot_2014-06-10-18-31-01_zpscm9eyvcv.png (http://s180.photobucket.com/user/hondalude86/media/Ba-A18/Screenshot_2014-06-10-18-31-01_zpscm9eyvcv.png.html)
If that is going to be the case, I might as well as install some extended studs while I'm at it... hell if i'm going to install rear ARP studs, I might as well install them in some brand new rotors along with some Carquest premium bearings.
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x319/hondalude86/Ba-A18/IMAG0028_zps5lqn6dlt.jpg (http://s180.photobucket.com/user/hondalude86/media/Ba-A18/IMAG0028_zps5lqn6dlt.jpg.html)

Thanks gio, the wheel offset is a +36mm offset. In these pictures im running 10mm spacer in the rear and a 15mm spacer in the front, but with the camber nearly full negative. So I have an 8mm spacer for the front, as well as a handful of other spacers to find which combinnation works best where... And as much as i wish i was balling out of control, these brakes are just Wilwoods, but badass none the less! Should have it running by wednesday if im lucky.

Made some big progress last night. I got the new water pump, new thermostat, new radiator, newer alternator, and new acc belts. Ive got the carbs and manifolds on, just need the lower exhaust manifold, all the fluids, and bleed my brakes. Ill be mobbing around on 15x9s and wilwoods soon! Im going to wish I had a rev limiter with this 7lbs flywheel!!! So many new parts im so excited progress picture...

alright guys, where do I start, Oh yea, we'll start from my stance days...

So I got it all back together last summer... Here is the reminder of what all got swapped/replaced...
New water pump, radiator, coolant hoses, thermostat and coolant for the cooling.
New jets for the carbies, baffled oil pan, new wilwood brake kit for the honda/acura with rotors (in hindsight i should have bought my own), My se-i hubs with semi fresh wheel bearings and arp wheel studs, new rear wheel bearings and rotors w/arp studs, re-used Si calipers with stock pads (passenger side ended up leaking, was quiet the fiasco when it was discovered, only the pass side ebrake worked).
Also swapped in my Clutchnet kit w/kevlar disc and stage 4 pressure plate, 7lbs clutchnet flywheel, my modded trans with the 1st gen teggy gearset intalled, some new 3rd gen accord axles (smaller od for my super lowness)... any and all plastic cheddaJ bushings I had laying around (which was everything but the rear toe bar, I have the spherical setup, which wouldn't clear the super wide wheels) and poly uerthane shifter bushings and front radius rod bushings...
I'm pretty sure I touched on everything, not sure if it was on there before or not, but I was able to cut up my 3rd gen accord coupe exhaust and hack the shit out it and installed it on the lude with an obx 4-1 header, which over the course of the following 12 months was able to absolutely crush the fuck out it... Here are some pics from those crazy days...

http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x319/hondalude86/Ba-A18/IMAG0202_1_1_zpsvurqsbyn.jpg (http://s180.photobucket.com/user/hondalude86/media/Ba-A18/IMAG0202_1_1_zpsvurqsbyn.jpg.html)

admittedly I didn't take to many pictures of the stance years (ok maybe year...) not like proper pictures... I should probably do some proper pictures again, with my current setup...

So, as Jared mentioned (rustlude), so alot of my time and money went into buying this house... and the 45 day long contract time was nerve racking! Was able to buy my house in Oct of last year... Then the snow came... which was fine since my little tires had seen probably 15-20 total miles by this time (10k of which mounted on my 9" wide wheels...) The company I work for started cutting back (cut 30% of its total work force in the camp I work at!! Yikes). Paranoid that I needed new tires for the nicer weather, I went cheap and bought some 195/45 federal Super Steel blah blahs... For like 260 shipped! Crazy, I know. Fearful that hose bad chickens would little pop off the 9" wide wheels I opted to mount them back on my traklites... as you can see here...

Both ludes in the garage...

got a roomate, starting making home improvements, the prelude sat through most the winter do to the large amount of snow, and the lack of brakes... So yea, that... I parked the car because of the impending snow storms and drove my truck, for a month or better... I decide with the new tires I should be able to get along just fine... That was until I had no brakes, the fluid had all leaked out over the course of that month or better! Was super scary... Back to driving the Slut Truck... thanks to Jared's donation, we were able to get back on track again... with ebrakes now! hells yea!

Hours start coming back, being extra frugal, I was able to save up a small batch of money, which I blew nearly immediately through after a weird break up... the ladies, damn the ladies...

So I bought myself a new daily driver... Thought I wanted an s2000 but that idea evolved into something a little more practical (was dating a woman with two kids! Yikes!!!) So I opted for a 2003 BMW M5... and let me tell you, this mother fucker is fast, like retarded, for a 4k lbs car, it moves... Ideas of modding the M5 were quickly running through my head... until I started pricing stuff out.. 1500$ just for some mufflers, that make ZERO power... In fact, food for thought, until you buy Headers, the exhaust purchases are strictly for sound... The factory headers are so restrictive that with just the headers, you make 40hp to the wheels... 40, through the stock exhaust. Nuts. Price for said headers? 2800$+. So I decided that the money would be better spent else where... Like on maybe getting the currently running Prelude and myself back out racing after my 2014 absence.

So, currently being in track mod, I had some somethings I needed to address, like the rotors in the front... the wilwood rotors simply can't take the heat, I've had them up to smoking temps and they warped... So I bought some new ones, for the Se-i fitment, some Power Slot Cryo treated rotors... but why so much rotor? My stock wilwood pads will only get to .44u at 400*... I wanted MORE!!! So I did, I bought some Wilwood Poly matrix A pads, .68u as early as 400*, .55u <100*, and .64u at 1300*. But Mr. Dussex, with all that pad, what about the rear brake bias? wont it be completely shitty with the stock pads, almost none exist both at cold temps and at rotors temps tipping 500+*? Yes and Yes... So I did 2 things... got new rotors (not installed yet)
http://i180.photobucket.com/albums/x319/hondalude86/Ba-A18/IMAG0915_zps0pnkwew4.jpg (http://s180.photobucket.com/user/hondalude86/media/Ba-A18/IMAG0915_zps0pnkwew4.jpg.html)
and some new Hawk Compound called their street/race compound, which I believe is a marketing ploy for the Hawk DTC-30s, a true hardcore pad. Why not the Hawk hp+ compound, a Pad that you know is a superior pad when compared to your stock pads, with great initial bite?
7002
7001
Please review the respective charts...
The dtc-30 have the same brake torque at 180 degress as the hawk hp+ but continue to soar where the hp+ start to die off, bottom line the hp+ does a great job for autocross on a light car, but the dtc-30 does better and goes well beyond the limits of the hp+ for road course use or heavy mountain driving. This pad combination, will not quit!!! I needed rotors up front that wouldn't either. Just to give you guys a reference, I went to break in the new pads on the rotors (already broke in rotors) and did some major work. I took a mile cool down lap and pulled into my garage and immediately temped the front and rear pads... the rear pads, after a good mile long 5 min cool down were still at 180* the front rotors were past 200* with the pad temps around 180* as well, ironically, the stock rear rotors had only held onto 130* of temp... figured it'd been higher...

Alright, so last post...

I installed my rear sway bar, an addco 19mm unit for better handling, worked on cleaning up the suspension and engine bay since it was all covered in road grime (not a problem now :) ) Then loaded it up for the weekend Autocross and raced the bad bitch...

Less than 20 miles on the wheels, and this was the clean front, the other was worse! Brake Dust!

waiting to be tech'd.

Ended up winning 1st in my class, but I was classed wrong and they wouldn't change it... would have placed about mid pack in the Proper Class, but I personally need work! Seat time!!!

So here is my to-do list... New Seat, Harness bar, New mobetta brake fluid, fix my filler neck, redo the exhaust and header, and get a distributor, the current one I believe to be at fault for my lost power since my last two alternators were over charging like crazy!

That is all!

Wow no kidding, big update! It sounds like you've had many up's and down's but are managing well.

Best of luck with the autocross, what are you thinking for a seat? Something you can find at the JY or something more serious?

something more serious, I'd love a recaro spg... but I'm not sure I want to spend 800 dollars on a 600 dollar car, but I've made crazier purchases so far... I might try to find a used Pro 2000 or something... we'll see

Raced the Prelude again today, with no issues... She did great. She set the bar high this morning being the last car in my class to take a run (solo2) and setting the 1st place time to beat! I went out there smoking the Nitto's! i was only able to improve 5 tenths is all, but among a fierce group of competition I was able to hold onto the 3rd place position... out of 10 other drivers. Feels good to be back into the solo life...

Nice to see the old girl being used out in anger send me details on the brakes I need some cheaper braking alternatives to mine as the rotor replacement costs is ridiculous as I have to get them cut down a few mm to clear the wheels and calipers.

nice purchase on the M5 just hope you don't mess around with it like the ludes lol! I added another beemer to my collection rocking a 325ti sport compact in mettalic grey haven't changed much other than fixing things, it's now perfect only mod is drop in wheel size to 16" and fitting some Bridgestone racey tyres not quite as hardcore as semi's but not far off and can still be used in wet without killing you! lol! So currently I have in my car estate a 2001 Golf Cabrio, 2005 BMW 1 series Hatch Wiesel Diesel, 2004 325ti compact, and the B20A SI (still in pieces), Silver lude DL (just replaced pistons), Red lude EX (wrapped up but needs some TLC to get back to looking and running tip top).
