when i want race, i shift around 6000 - 6500 rpm.
when i am regular driving i shift around 4000 rpm.
just remember that everytime you shift, engine will go down by 1000 rmp.(1st-2sd, 2sd-3rd) around 750 rpm when shifting from 3rd-4th, 500rpm when you shift from 4th-5th.

your owners manual has the proper shifting points for best economy in normal driving

Their is a formula to use where you factor in at what rpm's your engine develop's peak power and multiply or something with your gear ratio's. As you can see I don't know how, I just know their is a formula for it.

In reality, before I got a header and exhaust, it was cruel punishment to try and get power past 5800rpm's so I rarely bothered. After the header and exhaust I had power to redline and used it.;) Other wise I shifted at 3k to 2.5K, to make up for pushing it so much.

When I want to go fast I usually shift at around 6000 rpms and a little under 3000 rpms for normal driving (I save a lot of gas like this).

3700ish to 2nd and 3200ish to 3rd gives me the smoothest results for daily driving. I go to 5th when I reach my cruise speed (unless I'm getting on the freeway, then I might use 4th).

When I want to go fast I take it up to about 6k--it's still pulling, but I don't want to kill it.

wow, i have never gotten my car to 6000 even revving it in a parking lot. if i wanna take off at a traffic light or something i just go to like 4500 at the most, 3000 for normal driving, but that's a little slow. my car would cry if i ever took it to 6000. like it might actually cry, tears, runny nose and everything.
