Alright, I was sent here from superhonda. They told me you guys might be able to help me out better.

I have an '83 4 cyl accord, 2 barel carb'd. I have the chance to pick up an '89 accord 2 barel carb'd as well. Prob with the '89 is that the head is cracked, and a piston might be ruined as well.

My questions are as follows, would the head from the '83 fit the '89? I'm not quite sure if the engine setups are both the same. 2nd question, is the carb from the '89 usable on the '83?

And has anyone removed pistons from the '89 style engine before? Pistons and pushrods might be gone as well. Thanks alot

Nothing will carry over from the 83 to the 89.

Well that's no good. hmm.... What about those pistons? Have you ever replaced or removed them? This '89 is in amazing shape with only 100k miles on it. That's why i am looking at working on it . Hell for $150 i figure it wouldn't be so bad.

i would say get '89 and rebuild the engine.
you can get rebuild engine kit from autozone for under $400.
it comes with every gasket, pistons with rings and so on and on.

If you really want to go through all the work then $150 is cheap for an 89 accord that is in good shape other than the engine. If you get the engine right, they last for a long time. The 3G is one of the most reliable cars ever, in my humble opinion.

But if the head is cracked then it will be a bitch to do the work.

If I was gonna buy it, I'd try to get a junk-yard engine to take parts from. I mean, you're gonna need a head anyway if the thing is cracked.

One yard here in Chicago sells the whole engine with both manifolds for $300.

But, honestly, you might be able to shop around and get a good 3G in running shape for $500, and then you won't have to do all the work.

it would probably be cost effective to just get a rebuilt engine for the 89 and then it will last forever.
