I'm wanting to get a low mileage a20a3 to put in my 89 coupe. The guy that usually does work on my car said it would be $749.00 for labor does that sound a little steep? How much has anyone else paid for this.

The motor should cost between 500-700 shipped. I think i paid 7 something for my JDM A20A from nippon motors. I did my swap in the rain and on a dirt driveway in one full day so that is way to much on labor considering its in a shop and they should be able to do it faster than i did.

thanks for the input! I thought it sounded kinda high. I'm sick of these punk ass mechanics trying to screw me all the time. They realize i will put money in to fixing up my car and they over charge!! He supposedly got his price from a big blue Chilton's book. I thought it was supposed to be like the "kelly blue book" of labor prices or something!
Would the dealership do this kind of work? Would they be an arm and a leg too?

i dont think the dealerships would do that work...if they did they would probally be more expensive...

well, it will take around 10 hours I guess to do that (a good job)

add taxes to that and you won't be far from that price.

I bought a 89 Lxi and put an A20A3 engine in from a u-pull. Paid around 95 cash. Runs like a champ and started right up in 4 hours. Nothing to it really. So for 120 I had all work done and driving. Not bad in my opinion. Already put 15k on the new swap. lol
