Ok when My girlfriends 86 accord LX is below about 2K the battery light stays off but above it it comes on. I can get it to go off when I put the heater and the lights on along with the fan but other than that I cannot. I just changed out the voltage regulator and the brushes there is no rust on it or the contacts. Any hints on the problem.

I think the alternator is going to take a shit, but I am not 100% sure.

the alternator for a carbed car should only have 3 pins. The DX i bought came with a shitty alternator and when I bought it the seller included one. The one he included was for fuel injection. If the one on her car does have 4pins that could be the problem, but I dont see how it would fit the connector.

Carbs - 3pins
Fuel Injected - 4pins

I swear it has 4 pins and it is a carb the connector will not even fit three pins.

someone had this problem before and it was the alternator belt slipping and the light always came on under 2.5 K rpm !
but i am not sure ! but you could check that first before replacing an alternator ! ;)

get a voltage guage. you can get the nice in dash kind or the temporary cig lighter kind to measure the altenator output. IT should be at or around 12 volts just about all the time. If it is low or fluctuating wildy then I would imagne the altenator has difficulties. I think you can even get AutoZone or someplace similar to test your altenator for free. At least I'm pretty sure thats how it you test it. If I am wrong someone please call me on it.

as for the four pin connector....

A alternater is to hard to take out on 3-g's. Put a voltmeter across the battery it should read 12 volts, then start it it should then read 14 or so volts running. If low then take it to the zone.
