New to this forum...I've got an 88 Honda Accord DX hatchback which has 133,000 miles on it. Needs quite a bit of work interior and exterior wise but I'm in love with it. Typical honda rust for a car up north but I'll get it back to lookin' good.

Welcome! Always love the rare red hatches, how does the interior look?

Welcome. For a car from up north, I would expect much worse with regard to rust.

@Running Strong: Yes, it is a 5 speed which is one of the biggest reason's that I love it.

The interior isn't in terrible shape I feel that maybe a really good cleaning and possibly replacing a few things might make it look at little better. It even has the original stereo which isn't in full working condition but still nice to have. As far as I know the car has had a replaced transmission within the last year and I just recently have to change out the fuel pump cause the guy I bought it from had put in the wrong pump so it wasn't working. The rust on it isn't what I had expected when I heard there was an 88 honda for sale.

Take a very close look up inside the wheel wells, especially around the outer rim of the wheel wells. Using a small mirror and a light can help you see the inside the the rim. If you find some rust and can deal with it soon, that can help prevent or slow down further deterioration. These darn northern winters (road chemicals) are really hard on cars.

Yeah it's not too bad on rust for the year but those chemicals are a killer for Honda's. Just recently had to clean my carburetor and change my idle. The guy I bought it from had it running at 2000 rpm.

Wow 2000 rpm. Unfortunately my car has some rust and i can't really do anything about it.

Yeah, I had fun trying to find out where to lower the idle. Ended up having to take the air filter pan out and move everything just for that little screw. Haha
