Car Died Need Help!

So drove home from work and headlights went out and wipers slowed down.As I pulled in the driveway the car died,got a boost and started right up.When I turn on the headlights or wipers it dies.Is my combination switch shorted or is something else wrong.Someone please help,need to get to work.

Sounds like your alternator isnt charging right put a multimeter on the battery and see if the alt is charging it or not. Should read 14.4 volts or near that

Thought of that but the charging light didn't come on.What should I set the multimeter to,there are two voltage settings.

You are checking Dc volts there doctor. Some meters will have a v with straight line over it.
