Have a weird issue with my gas gauge lately. The needle on the gauge only shows half when full, and now it's 1/8 when full. Weird thing is the fuel light still works correctly, i mean it comes on only when the tank is actually low on fuel.

I know sometime the needle that is in the tank that runs across the copper strip sometimes wears a spot in that strip and gets stuck, but it seems odd that even if the gauge shows below empty, the fuel light doesnt come on unless it is actually close to empty.

when i say needle in the tank, i am assuming that these have a sending unit like this.

So, i guess my question is, anyone else ever have this issue? I just want to ask before i go and pull the pump out since it is in a tight spot now with the wall where it is.
Thanks.

The good news is that the manual has diagnostic tests for the gauge and sender unit. :) The bad news is that they all require you to access the modules in the tank. :(

The '89 USDM manual host is down, but one of the other manuals (http://3geez.wiki-tv.com/Honda_service_manuals) should cover it.

I have a manual in pdf somwhere, from a glance, it looks like i have access to the tank from inside the hatch, the two round covers there. So other than having to duck under the amp rack ala-contortionist style, getting to them shouldnt too bad.

I'll have to check my manual when i get home to see if that is in there.
