this is just an issue of "Autoweek" from back in 1989, but it says that it reviewed the Accord 5 cylinder engines.....yes i said 5. Anyone know anything about these engines? I'm guessing they are JDM and were never offered in the US/Canada because this is the first i've ever heard of a Honda 5 cyl.

The only 5 cylinders that I knew of were made by Audi in the late 80s (I was young I might be off a bit).

it was probably the 5 cyl Vigor engine. since the issue was at the end of '89, they would have been reviewing a '90 model, so who knows, in japan or europe there may have been a 4G 5 cyl honda accord/vigor

yeah, i see one or two vigor with 5 cyl on it. I used to think someone was playing a joke on it, but turned out it was true. What kinda engine is that? Why the fuck have a 5cyl and not an inline 6?

5 was cheaper than 6.. but you know you get a few more cc with that 5th cylinder.

Seriously.. I would think they were developing, and this was a concept. Whether or not it worked, well.. maybe. Heck, maybe it did, I hear those 6 cyl. are a good engine..

i have heard of the Acuras with the 5s too. i also know about the Volvos. Europeans love that weird shit. and as for why, why not? it's an inline engine, so you don't have to worry about side to side balancing and it will be ok as long as you keep shit in a line. remember the Buick Straight 8?
