Heyo everyone! My name is Calabek (pronounced TS-UH-LUH-BEK), I'm 21 and currently living in South Australia, Australia. I'm a full time student, but at the time of making this thread I have about 2 and a half months left for holidays.
Last week (01-12-13) I came across an Aerodeck for sale in Queensland (about 2,100kms from my current residence) so I called the guy and told him I'd take it, regardless of problems. The 86-89 Aerodeck has been my number 1 favourite car ever since I saw Marvin (http://www.3geez.com/forum/accord-pics-videos/77685-1988-aerodeck.html) a few years back. Crazy_C completely inspired me with his Aerodeck and from that moment I knew I had to have one!

So, onto the Aerodeck. The Aerodeck is an 87 model, as of posting this thread I haven't actually seen it in person, but I have plenty of photos to share. It's been imported from Japan, B18A with 160,xxxkms, it has OEM rain guards, OEM mats and the power folding mirrors. Apparently there's a bit of rust in the hatch, and some on the front passenger side pillar. I've been told the pop-up lights don't pop-up, the interior is pretty mint and it comes with old registration papers (which is a huge thing for me because it's extremely hard to register imports here). I've done some research and I believe it's the only one in the whole of Australia (yay!) I bought the car for $800AUD and have organised for it to be shipped down which cost me $469AUD. My plan is to restore it, keep it looking extremely 80s, not stanced, moreso sleeper and to use it as a daily instead of my CD5. Onto the pictures!

It's definitely going to take some time, but I'm willing to put in the time for this car. It's my number 1 favourite, so why not?
When it arrives I'll be giving it a major service (because even though it runs, you never know). As for modifications and other plans;

Bought a bunch of service parts last Sunday.
Battery Century,
Oil Penrite 10w-50 (might take it back and change over for 15w-40),
Coolant Tectaloy 90+,
Camshaft, Alt., PS and A/C belts,
Radiator Cap,
Oil and Fuel filters (Repco and Ryco respectively), and
Spark Plugs NGK.
I also put a bunch of parts on order which will arrive tomorrow (16/12/13).
Air filter Ryco,
Top Radiator Hose, and
Lead Set TopGun,
It's a bit of a weird list. I work for an automotive spare parts place in Australia, so I got this stuff relatively cheap. Unfortunately no specific listings for the Aerodeck B18A, so I found listings for the Integra B18A. I hope they're the same. I will find out soon, I guess. Hahaha!
I'm hoping this will cover the basics, but I might order some more stuff next time I'm in work. My main goal now is to get it registered so I can legally drive it. :)

There are a few small rust spots, nothing major. Digital climate control works beautifully, door and boot seals are in good condition, engine runs well, ONE light pops up. It needs some work until it's up to a presentable spec, but I think it's a great base to start from. :)

The car is an unbelievable haul of JDM goodness. I had no idea when I first saw the pics. Keep this car and love it tenderly. It's a rare specimen.

Unhappy that I missed out on the Digi-Dash that AccordB20A sold recently :/ But oh well. MAYBE I'll get lucky and another one will appear. :)

BOTH POP-UP LIGHTS NOW WORK! :D Turns out the connector that controls them was just unplugged, so I plugged it back in and we're good to go! :)
I also cleaned up 95% of the leaves, dirt and cobwebs in the engine and it looks rather good. Both pop-up lights now work (which saves me money on buying a new light motor), there are a few... suspicious things I need to look into with the motor, but the main thing is that it runs. I also vacuumed the interior and it looks mint as fuck ! the carpet came out beautiful, all the seats came out amazing and I'm really happy with it. :) Tomorrow after work I'll get into dusting and lubricating the dash.

These are authentic ones. They taste amazing, and the company doesn't skimp on the chocolate. We have an Australia, knock-off brand here and they taste horrible :(

So a small update. :) I've been spending a lot of time cleaning the interior and it has come up really mint! I have a few problems, but I think I'll be able to handle them. :)

Nothing special yet. Only done the vacuuming, and cleaned the dash, doors and center console. I still have to apply the lube :P
Here's some pictures of rust. Nothing major I guess. A bit worrying that they're both on parts that are very hard to replace (the door and hatch). But I'll drop them off to a body repairer as my body repair knowledge is... none.

Apart from that, I replaced a couple globes and I've started thinking about paint colours. I wanted to stick with OEM colours, and I was thinking something light / bright so scratches won't show up as easily. I don't see the point of getting a brand new paint job of black if I'm only going to see scratches after the first trip. :/ Not to mention keeping it clean.

What do you guys think? My dad thinks I should repaint it the same colour as it is now as the interior of the doors, engine bay and other visible painted areas are already black. :/ But yeah. What do you guys think?

You have a dash warning light that we don't have here. The upper left-most light looks to be a catalytic converter warning light. Do you know what it's for?
As for paint color, I don't think dark blue is enough different to justify the bother. I'm not sure what you're planning for the car, but given the condition, options and rarity of the car, I would be shooting for a numbers matching full restoration. That one is probably going to be worth a lot of money some day as-is. It will be worth even more if you find a way to preserve the original paint.

Uhm, I don't remember exactly what it's for, but I believe it's connected to a heat sensor that's attached to the heat shield for the extractors? I could be wrong, but I think that's what it's for... I will do some more research and get back to you :)
Yeah, you raise a good point.
I don't intend on selling the car down the track, but you do raise an interesting point. Maybe I should just keep it black and try my magic on bringing up the existing paint as best I can. Multiple areas will need to be sanded down (where I can see rust has just been painted over) to remove it, leaving a smooth body line. I figured I might end up having to respray anyway. I was I just don't want to deal with a dirty car all the time as well as having scratches show up quite easily. :/

Been busy lately. Too many excuses to be honest. I did however finish cleaning the interior. Just need to clean the glass, give it another vacuum, polish the plastics and give it a once over with some shine and it'll be looking extremely mint. :D I also managed to recover some random trim pieces and find homes for them, which is awesome as it saves me having to find them second hand :P
So today I kicked things into gear. I put it up on jack stands, drained the old fuel out (as requested by my dad), changed the oil, the oil filter, the leads, the plugs, the battery, all the fuses in the engine bay, general cleaning as I went through, and the fuse index sticker ontop of the fuse cover was peeling, so I cleaned both surfaces and glued it back on.
out of all this, the only picture I managed to take was one of the old spark plugs.
LOL. Sorry. I didn't think the other stuff was too important to take a photo.
I'll also provide a picture of before and after of the jdm fuse box index sticker. I managed to find a picture of the engine bay and zoom in, then take one of the work I did and put them next to each other. Very happy I could salvage it, cause I doubt I'd get my hands on another one. :P

I raided a local wreckyard a couple days ago. There was only an old CA5 hatch there. I grabbed multiple screws, the oil cap, the remaining switches (demister, headlights and dimmer) as well as a dash mat (to suit blue interior - I'll dye it or something to suit mine), fuse box lid (no sticker), heater hose and the exhaust manifold cover (which turned out not to fit). I also got some parkers. One of them was in bad condition (as in faded) and I thought it would be alright but when I got home they looked terrible. I'll just save them as spares and buy some JDM ones after I pass inspection.

I also put the car up on 4 jack stands so I could get a better look at everything. It all looks okay, brakes will need replacing, calipers need a respray. There is however some damage to the chassis where it looks like someone has tried to jack it up from there. Here's a picture. My dad seems to think we can drop it off to someone and it'll be as simple as welding an L piece there. Unfortunately, this is a MUST fix before inspection, otherwise it will not pass.

Apart from that I've dropped the coolant, found a few replacement bolts for rusted ones, I've managed to take off the bumper, pull apart the thermostat housing. So yeah, moving a long slowly. Still a bit of work to do.

Yeah, it sucks these cars did not come out in more places.
Haha, thank you. If you do import one to the states, make sure you get a second one. This car is the most orphan car in that parts are extremely hard to track down! I'm just glad most of mine is there. :P

Snooz is right about the color , but if you have to take care of rust anyway...might as well make it just what you want. At least the bay and all sills could stay black if you drastically change the color. I just painted and it would have been worlds easier not to have to disassemble the car so much. Guess I am just lazy.

Haha thanks, the uniqueness is what drew me to the car also. :) There is really no other car like it, even the 3geez. It differs from them quite a lot.
And especially in Australia, there is no vehicle on our roads that looks like this car.
Yeah, I kind of like the black-gold combo. It's grown on me lately. :) Besides, this is just sexy ;)

Unfortunately we've been hitting 45C everyday for the last week or so, and today was our first day below 40C. It's hard to work on the car in such extreme heat.
I'm hoping this week I can gather quotes on how much it will be to repair the chassis. Tomorrow I'll be returning some incorrect parts to work and hopefully picking up some new ones :)
My impatience is growing though. I'd really just like to start modifying !!!

I do plan on lowering it. I'm not too sure how much, but I'd prefer to get some adjustable coilovers over a coil/spring setup.
That way I can adjust the height, as well as getting improved performance and (hopefully) damper control for the spirited runs through the hills :D

I called up the local vehicle inspection agency to make sure I could fix this and still pass. They said as long as I got an engineers certificate I will be fine.
So I called up a chassis repair and body shop to get a quote and I was quoted $1,000 +GST WITH an engineers certificate.
So I'm happy and progress can continue on the Aerodeck :D

Engineer's certificate? For reals? How could that fail? Like someone would keep driving when there's a big sag in the passenger floorboard? I thought Cali smog checks were bad. That's a nice racket they have isn't it? Here, you'd give your buddy a six-pack and have him weld it up on his lunch break. Instead, you get the lawyers and bureaucrats involved and it becomes a $1000 repair with heaps of red tape. Sheesh.

:D long story shot, don't settle down in Australia. Cars are our biggest form of revenue raising (next to taxes of course) and the government bodies will push any means necessary to squeeze every last cent out of us. We get a $400 fine + 3 demerit points (you only get 10 and 3 back every 3 years) if we're even caught with our phone in our hand. :/
Anyway, I'm not gonna rage on about that. I have some rather good news. The old owner of the Aerodeck finally sent through the books and paper work ! :D I now have the original jdm owners manual as well as rego papers from 02-11 and service receipts from 02-11. All the stuff I thought might break (axles, alt., brake master cylinder) have already been replaced within the last 20,000-30,000kms :D

So I had seen this parking pole on eBay 2 days ago and it was "Auction Only". So I spent the last 2 days keeping a good eye on it and it had one bid when I saw it which was $150.00US (and shipping was $40.00US) so at the last 2 minutes I bid $153.50US and won! :D Very VERY happy with this purchase. Although no one on my facebook seems to agree or understand :P It's the whole set too (wiring, pole, button and the led works as well as the pole). I think it will look great on the Aerodeck. :) a very nice addition!

Hey guys, here's a bit of an update.
I managed to scrape the crust off around the thermostat housing and put a new thermostat in.
I've bought replacement front pads and discs as well as ordered some rear drums and shoes earlier today.
I also bought some black caliper paint. I plan on painting the side of the discs and also the hats of the discs and drums so they don't rust.
Today my parking pole came in which I'm most pleased about. :) Pole, wiring, button and mount. I also made a short video of how it works.

Apart from that nothing else has changed. I did do some minor cleaning around the block and thermostat area (getting a lot of the gunge off) but unfortunately I have plenty more left.
I also found some more rust. However, I'm so close to getting it registered, I can taste it! :D

Over the last week I have been tackling the brakes and I'm pretty much there. Only have to bleed the brakes and replace a few screws I may have shredded. :P
So I replaced the old discs, pads, shoes and drums and surprisingly ATP (who supplies our brakes at Repco) managed to sort me out in less than 5 minutes with the correct part numbers and parts. So I got them home, I painted the drums black (to ensure they wouldn't rust like the old ones), I also painted the hats on the discs and the sides of the discs (so they wouldn't rust). As I took off the old parts I also took the time to wire wheel off all the rust on the dust covers for the pads and the calipers. I painted them afterwards to make sure they wouldn't rust again. I also took advantage of everything being off and sanded and painted the rear dust cover of the discs so it blended a little nicer. Here are some pics. oh! and I also put some de-squeak paste on the brake pad dust cover just to make sure

There's honestly not a whole much left to do. I was talking to a couple of managers at work and they say the amount of work I'm putting in is unnecessary to get it passed inspection, but I think it's better to do the work while the car is off the road, on jack stands, as opposed to my excitement taking over and never getting around to these small details. My goal is end of march, but with uni starting up this coming week I feel it may be closer to end of april.

been a somewhat big week. I've started uni again so I'm pretty fucked most days.
but I did manage to get new tires this week (nothing special, just some cheapies to get me through till I can afford some watanabes), I bled the brakes and they're pretty on point now, I took the aero off the stands and it's now sitting on the tires, put the bumper and latch back on, and today I got out there and washed it. In 7 hours all I managed to do was wash it, clay bar it and polish the hood. Little to say I'm unhappy with my effort and wish I had more time. I still need to polish all other parts of the car as well as apply a wax. However, it was probably best I'd stopped as all my towels were dirty and need to be washed.
The good news is, my bonnet is now pretty damn shiny! it looks amazing!
The bad news is, I started the car today. It seems to spike straight to 2,000-2,500rpm and just keep climbing and I really don't know why. It got to 3,000rpm in about 30 seconds and then I turned the car off. I turned the car back on to check if it would do it again, and it did. So I turned the car off and won't turn it on again just in case I'm causing damage somehow. Does anyone have any ideas ?
Also, here are photos of the bonnet. Need to do the roof soon too.

I'm sorry my photos are so shitty. I had to take them with my phone as I broke my DSLR lens a few weeks back and haven't had the funds available to replace it. :/ Also, there's a little section on the front of the bonnet close to the driver's side. you can see it has not come up clear like the rest, I think it's too far gone to save it. It has a very leathery feel to it. anyway, that's all for now. I was hoping to have it booked into an exhaust shop and chassis repair shop by today, but hadn't had the time. I will finish cleaning it monday and perhaps book in too (as I'm working all weekend). I might drop the car off tuesday sometime which means in a week or two it will be registered. :) hooray!!!

Funny you mention this, the thought crossed my mind but I thought I will just bring it back as to stock for the inspection and then go about modifying and changing things. :)
I was also unsure if the parts were interchangeable ? I assume they will be because all the shocks are interchangeable through the 3G range (sedan, coupe, wagon and hatch).

Mhm. Thanks for the luck. At the moment he doesn't want to give them up. He doesn't know what car they're for, but the part number corresponds with a JDM brochure I found. He's keeping them because he knows they're rare :P I think the only way I'll get them from him is if I found something SB3 Civic related to trade. But his car is already super stacked. I feel there is no hope :(

I have been working hard at uni lately and have had less and less time for the Aerodeck. But I temporarily fixed the idle problem. It was the cold start mechanism sticking shut, so I disabled it for now so I can register the vehicle and it seems to sit steady at about 600 - 700rpm :)
I also bought this parts book. Every single part number I could ever want + break downs of every component. It has already been worth the $50 I spent on it :)

I took the Aerodeck out for our first drive today too. Only around the block to test the brakes and to make sure it runs correctly. It is amazing, I am utterly and hopelessly in love with this car. It's smooth, the engine runs well, it's got a unique Japanese feel to it! It's just PERFECT! :D I cannot wait until I get it registered and use it as a daily!

Haha thanks. The trees are actually a pain in the ass. They drop berries that have nuts in them throughout winter and they get stuck in our tires... :( They are very hard to remove.
Oh yeah we have a lot of places like this here. You'll generally find either the people here are too lazy to get annoying trees removed, or our government is too lazy to do it :P

Mhm :) I'm most happy with the digital climate. I would be happy with the power folding mirrors too, but I think the mechanisms are shot. Neither fold in, however I can hear the passenger side TRY to pull in. It's a real shame :( Oh well... I will try to source some replacement power folding mirrors in the future.

After a lot of time on the phone today I found out that I cannot get insurance for this vehicle as it doesn't have a compliance 'exempt' sticker (something all imported vehicles needed to have). The reason it doesn't have one is because technically the Aero doesn't need one because it was made before 1989 which means it doesn't have to comply with the ADR (Australian Design Rules). BUT, South Australia overrides the rule with their own laws stating that cars made before 1985 don't need to comply. So I have to follow the SA law. Which means even though I don't need a sticker, apparently in SA I do... So insurance wont give me insurance for the car, but I can't drive the car without insurance. So after more time on the phone, I got an application for driving an unregistered vehicle which allows me to say "I'll be driving the vehicle from A, using roads 1, 2, 3 and 4 to get to B". It doesn't give me insurance for my car, or cover emergency crew levies in the case something happens... it just covers the other person's car.. which... was enough to get me to the chassis repair shop. :D So today I drove the Aero down to the chassis shop and the helpful owner said it should be done late next week or early the following the week. :) I must say, the drive was amazing. Very comfortable, I felt safe, I thoroughly enjoyed it. :D The shop owner's assistant also gave me a compliment and drooled for a little bit :D So win-win-win!
So after I get this done, I need to get a new muffler, and then it's off to our inspection agency for an ID check and a FULL roadworthy test (I am unhappy about this) to ensure my vehicle is up to standard with the ADRs so I can get that exempt sticker... :uh::uh: This is going to be a long and painful process... :( :(

So this is the new badge, the first picture is when it arrived and the second picture is of a quick clean up i did with some plastic polish and regular polish (but only by hand). Unfortunately it's quite tarnished and doesn't have a nice glossy film... it's more like leather. Any ideas on how to bring it back ?

Hey Glenn, I did find the culprit - that being a small plunger unit that was controlling the cold start RPM. It was getting stuck and holding the cold start far too high, thus making the RPM spike. Unfortunately I haven't been able to fix it, however I have disabled it for now which means I have to be the manual cold start. :P Which I have no problem with as it will allow me to take the car from Point A to Point B. I will fix it in the future though.

Unfortunately not. I did some research last week and there are tons and tons or new hurdles I have to jump through. Apparently it conforms to national law, but state law is different and I now need to try and make it conform to state law :( So instead of spending $50 - $60, I now need to spend $1,000 - $2,000 :(

Unleaded fuel filler cap/neck, rear child restraint anchor/mountings & I think local seatbelts (Japan sometimes only required lap belts in the rear) for Victoria.. Though we didn't do the compliancing.
I found my '87 CR-X must have been rather dubiously complianced as someone has (afterward?) cut off the factory filler neck leaving nothing to retain a cap, & somehow it was compliance as a 4-seater.. still with the Japanese lap belts in the tiny rear 'seat'.
Nearly all required parts should be available from local hatchbacks, though of course PROOF it meets requirements is more difficult/expensive than actually making sure it meets them.
Perhaps a few coats of clear over the badge, which could then be polished smooth? Great piece of history.

Well, it's not necessarily the car itself that's the problem. (It's much easier explaining this to an Australian who knows the rules :P ) it's missing an exempt sticker which it never actually needed in QLD. Long story short, SA requires imports post 1985 to have one, but because no other state in Australia has this rule (as the default set by the Import Infrastructure of Australia states imports made before 1989 don't need a sticker nor do they need to comply to ADR) it never got a little sticker ... :( so now it needs to go for both an ID check and also full rwc which means i have to fix up all the little shit that's wrong with it as our inspection agencies are tough as balls :( it's extremely unheard of someone passing inspection on their first go. our state is pretty greedy (first inspection is about $180, second is $110 or $100) so most people are always back for a second inspection.
however, things like seat belts were changed when it initially hit Aus back in 02, i have both the mod plate and mod cert for proof. :) which is a plus.
as for the badge, a few of my friends have told me 2000 grit may be the best way to go, however it's not 100%, it could just scratch it up... :/ I would prefer not to mess it up. I wonder if I can find someone in SA who deals with things like this... ?

It looks like your center cap is made with a textured finish. It might be as nice now as it ever was. If yo're sure you want it shiny and the finish is hard and not gummy, then I would spend an evening buffing it out with a tube of toothpaste and a Dremel tool with a buffing wheel attachment. I've never had good results trying to shine things up with sandpaper.

I've had a small change of direction since I last posted. I've found more rust which is a pain... and it's in the worst place of all, the hatch! I'm unsure as to whether it'll be repairable, but I am banking on the fact it will be. I plan to strip the car completely (engine, wiring, every nut, bolt and screw.. everything) and then get it completely resprayed. So pretty much starting with a straight, completely brand new paint and rust free car. :) I'm also looking at acquiring BNIB parts over second hand, however if I find something in second hand I'll generally pick it up regardless. I think that's about it. I am a little upset I won't be driving it anytime in the near future. However it will be well worth the wait to ensure all the rust is taken out and to start a fresh with awesome paint and some replaced parts. Pretty much I'm saying the paranoia will be removed of something falling off, of snapping, or breaking or rusting to pieces, etc etc.
Oh, I guess I should say this. I'm still unsure as to whether I'll do all this work and this register it, or register it and then do the work. I have a few things left on my check list to complete before it goes to get register. I guess it will depend on how I want to spend the money when I get to that point in time.

Thanks man. :) I think it just helps to alleviate the uncertainty as to whether anything is broken or needs repairing. I would prefer to do all of my repairing first, and then play and modify freely and without worry. :)

Well looks like a neat enough job there.
I guess rusty areas of tailgate are hidden by trims so at least it will not be obvious if the repairs are not flawless, so long as they stop it getting worse.

Personally I think they did a great job. They got in, cut out the old section, welded a new one up and painted it with that zinc stuff to ensure it doesn't rust over. They got in the interior and (I can't remember how) applied force to apart of the floor that had been punched up a little bit due to the damage.
It ended up costing $1,100 however they supplied me with an engineer's report so that the inspection agency shouldn't have a problem with it. It's a tad expensive, and much more than I would of preferred to pay, however I'm confident that they did an extremely good job and that I will not have any further problems with it :)

Oh thank you :) It's nothing yet. There's A LOT of work that needs doing. I'm so keen to drive it and get it fixed and start modifying and tinkering. It's just going to be a lot of work to get to that point. And my constant unnecessary spending doesn't help. Which brings me to my latest purchase that came in the mail today:

All for $200usd shipped. Not a bad haul, however I'm running out of button space on the dash and on the console extremely quick. I think I only have 2 or 3 free spaces in total and I already have fog lights and a parking pole ... now headlight washers ? Uh-oh ! hahahha. Maybe I will do some custom fabrication to allow for one or two more buttons. Nothing fancy or too extravagant, just something that looks stock and would be glazed over by someone who doesn't know about 3geez.
Not to get my hopes up just yet, but a member on this forum has 2 Aerodecks from the UK and had an accident in one of them recently. He split his washer bottle and said providing things go well with the insurance company, he might be inclined to sell it to me - which ultimately means I don't need to hack up my own and just repair his. :)
I was also looking at twin pot front calipers on eBay and unfortunately there's only one seller, and he's asking like $165USD w/o shipping. So expensive. I was hoping to take them for $100 :/ I messaged him and he won't budge.

No news. For the last 3 months I have been vigorously saving for a trip to Europe, and I have succeeded. I leave tomorrow actually. :) I'll be visiting Spain, Netherlands, Poland, Norway, Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Estonia and Lithuania. I'll be gone for a month, however when I return I will be working my butt off to get this car in top shape. I'm almost considering selling my other Accord to pay for the things I need to make the Aero look top !
Interior is mint as fuck though ! Just pieces here and there missing for troubleshooting. The indicators work, but the hazard switch does not. So the steering column is off. The rear wiper doesn't work so all the trim pieces around the hatch are off (someone cut off the original plug and didn't reconnect it, so it's a matter of soldering 8 wires together). Speaker cover is missing as I got some cool 'BOSE' speaker covers I want to put on.

Yesterday I did get out there and try to stick the small trim piece back on that covers the hatch (so I could at least try to pass registration when I got back from Europe). Both driver's side clips are broken and so the only way I thought of getting it back on was by industrial strength double-sided tape and weights to ensure it adhered. It's definitely a temporary solution. The trim piece was bent as fuck too, so I put it in a vice to try and fold it back to it's original shape, but, only semi-succeeded. It still looks pretty bent, but the hatch now opens and closes with no requirement to stick my fingers on the trim pieces to push it down.

I've got that update you've all been waiting for :)
So, as you know I've been in Europe ! But I'm back. Money is being poured into the Aerodeck now. My parents are looking for a new house (to build) and there just won't be enough room for 7 cars so my dad and I are (almost) being forced to sell one each. :/ So the purple Accord will go and I'll keep the Aero. However I have a year and a half before I need to sell the purple one.
As for the Aerodeck, today I got out and fixed up all the minor issues I was worried about before inspection. I fixed my hazard button - which turned out to be a blown fuse.. fml. I only replaced them quite recently too. I may have a short.
I also went to a wrecker and picked up an ED/EF hatch rear wiper loom. The old owner had cut the plug off mine. I got the loom (which mind you, had the original plug which was the same as the Aerodeck and 2 plugs for the rear demister) and soldered it to where the old loom had been cut and plugged it in. I had to extend one of the demister plugs so I soldered that and it all fit. The reason I got one with a demister is because the ones on the Aerodeck went missing when they cut the original male plug off for the rear wiper. And that fixed the last problem too which was the demister not working. A great day with only $5 spent in total for the loom !
Now with everything up to my satisfaction I just need to replace the rusted muffler and I'll be good to go to inspection. Muffler is booked for 13/03 and inspection will be booked for 20/03. All going to plan I'll have it registered in 2 weeks and have it for the next local Honda meet and cruise !

Yesterday after a solid charge I started it up and it fired up after the first crank. It was like music to my ears. Idled beautiful at about 700-900rpm. (Here's a video of it living ! https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=940601615964115)
However there was quite a bit of smoke coming out of the extractors (of which I can only assume is oil). It burnt like it and smelled like it. I'm not worried as I started it again today and nothing came out. It must have burned off yesterday which is good :3
I also had a friend come over today and we tackled another problem (which I didn't really remember I had until yesterday). The problem was that out of the 3 washer nozzles on the car, only half of one was working. There was a blockage in the rear hose (luckily quite easy to get to and fix), the driver side nozzle wasn't even attached to anything and the passenger side was just blocked. I went to Repco and got some hose and a T piece and connected the front ones up. That's all working now. Quite beautifully I must say, however I think there's a leak as there was a puddle of water under the car after I'd finished playing. It makes me nervous but I'm hoping I'll get away with it through inspection and be able to fix it afterwards.
Although the rear squirts as well, there's a leak too. I had a small trim piece taken off around the area of the hatch and when I was squirting the rear nozzle, water was flowing out of this trim piece down the body on the interior. Some landed in the seats. I'm going to stuff a rag in there and keep my fingers crossed.
It may seem like I'm doing things dodgy (which I am) however it's time to get this registered. Believe me - I'll be fixing these issues. Immediately too. But for now, the inspection will give me a good indication as to whether there's anything I've missed or still need to do. I don't want to say I'm confident, but it's look promising and I'm very excited. :)

Hey guys ! I bought a day permit to take the car down to get a muffler replaced today. It was awesome to drive it again. I'm so addicted. I'm completely head over heels !
Anyway, the muffler + labour only cost $100 which is awesome as I was originally quoted $200-$300.

The lad who did it told me he got this off a WRX. It's quiet as all hell but I'm sure it'll pass the inspection with no problem !
I do have an oil leak though. Quite a bit of smoke coming from the extractors... I'm struggling to get the shield off as it has a sensor or something attached. I can't figure out how to take it off, but I'll tackle it again this weekend.
I thought it was leftover oil or maybe I spilled some but it would have burned off by now as I start car everyday. It smells a lot too. I'm starting to think it may not pass. Even on short drives (10 mins or so) there is a bit of smoke coming out from the bonnet. Any ideas ?

I've had some information regarding the oil leak passed onto me from a few knowledgeable people. They believe it could be the rocker cover gasket (as I didn't replace it with a new one when I took it off - because I couldn't get a replacement from Honda). However they've told me to check out the ADM B20A6 and B18A1 as they look extremely similar and might do the job. I'll check it out after work and report back but for now here are a couple HD photos I promised the other day. The Aero looks beautiful. I'm excited to start driving it daily and modifying it heavily.

The previous one (pictured above with the GreyMaxx on it above the rocker cover) was hard, and tough, and stale. The new one slotted right in, was soft and awesome ! I put a thick bead of GreyMaxx on there - just to be safe.
... embarrassingly when I was undoing the bolts for the cover I found one (which coincidentally was the bolt above the cam gears - ie, where the leak was) that was almost completely loose. -.-" Major facepalm!!
I had a look through the cams and saw a lot of fresh oil that had run out of the rocker cover and down the block. I'm about 99.5% confident that was my issue. However changing over the gasket and seals was a good thing to do tonight anyway. There's a small oil build up in the spark plug tubes but I'm sure it'll burn off and there won't be anymore deposits now that I have new seals.
I'm so confident I'll book inspection tomorrow for Friday. I hate how I have to pay for the inspection over the phone straight up -.- wish I could pay there.
Anyway, I also got some Sika and perma-glued down the back hatch trim. Left it over night with some weights on there and it seems good today. Woohooo ! The last two weeks with this car have been so lucky and so easy. I'm kinda worried.

~~ Forgot to mention. I went to the inspection center on Friday. Got there nice and early at opening at 8am as asked by the two people I spoke to on the phone earlier last week. Both said I could come down and get it inspected. Then the lady at the desk told me I had to first go to get an ID inspection because it's from a different state and then go to vehicle standards to get a list of what is required (ADRs - Australian Design Rules) to pass inspection - which would be sent out by post and I'll get it a week or two. However I told her I was feeling confident and asked if I could go for an inspection. She said yes but to come back after the ID inspection.
I did the ID check, I passed. I rolled up and the guy was like "this is a weird looking car" and I laughed and thanked him. Then he said "I don't like weird" bahahaha :P
Then I went to vehicle standards and found that I was one ADR short. It was for side intrusion panels or something. So I drove to an engineer and it turns out I have the ADR but just needed the paper to say I have it and it complies. This piece of paper cost $350. I was outraged, but happily took it and left for my inspection. I got there and the lady said "sorry, you can't book a same day inspection. You can wait but you'll be behind 2 other people. It's extremely unlikely you will get in today"
Furiously I was about to flip all the lids but my dad walked in and calmed me down. After the 3 hours of jumping through hoops, I waited for another 5 before calling it quits. Booked for Monday which cost me $272 + $43 for an unregistered day pass.
Went in Monday. The car's temp gauge rose to 3/4 about 5 mins before arriving there (did about 20-30 mins of granny driving). I got there and some guy in the carpark pointed out my car was pissing out water. I got out and to check and 750ml had pooled around the wheels. I let it cool down and bought some cold water from a shop across he road and poured it in. Took it through inspection an hour later and passed by the skin of my teeth. The guy doing it said I have a rear brake line that looks like it's about to burst, a lower ball joint about to break and my tires (not my wheels) were sticking 10mm out the guard. But he took it for a drive and said it was one of the better cars he'd driven through his inspection career. So he gave me my exemption sticker and I am now officially registered !!!!!
TLDR; Car overheated, still passed. Woo ! Officially registered !

I did however encounter another overheat when I got home. I got out of the car and the overflow bottle was BOILING. AGGRESSIVELY. It was shaking and you could hear it ! It was HOT ! It started leaking out of the seals and dropped another 750ml ! Anybody got an idea ?
Thermostat was replaced bout 100kms ago, no visible splits in hoses, no milky residue in the oil. Going to replace it with coolant tomorrow and hope it helps us with troubleshooting (as there's only water in there now - which when taken out is BROWN)

Sounds to me like it might just be a bad radiator cap.

run the heater and make sure you feel heat from the vents and that the heat is stable, meaning it doesnt go from hot to cold back to hot, which could indicate a problem with the pump or air in the line.
replacing the cap is a cheap fix. the cap only has to open enough the bleed out the vent. also there are two different temp ratings for the thermostat or cap, correct me if im wrong.
check your oil and oil level.

The cooling fans are coming on, yes. :) I know this because when they kick in, I look at my temp gauge and it's slowly rising. It's been the dead giveaway the car is about to overheat. Usually in my 96 Accord, they continue to run on and off cooling the engine down. It was never a sign of it overheating, just that it was hot.

fyi, on another forum someone asked me if I had bled the thermostat housing after I'd replaced it. They gave me directions to do so (ie, crack the nipple, listen for air, clean the nipple, run the car, look for a steady stream of water, etc etc). After I racked the nipple I heard a deposit of air escape for a good 5-10 seconds. The nipple was clogged up so I cleaned it, tested it and put it back in. I'll run the car now for a bit and see if it happens again. If no - hooray. If yes - I'll start looking at somewhere else to diagnose the problem. (Probably the cap as it's the next cheapest thing I can fix)

Thanks mate! It's half-half. I used it all weekend on long drives without a problem. Then I took it for a quick run in the hills. I was keeping the RPM within the 2,000-3,000 range for most of the drive and the temp gauge sat normal. But when I pulled over the water was boiling again. It wasn't as aggressive as before and didn't lose any. So I'm really not sure what's going on. I might take it to someone who can do a compression test to see if there is a leak anywhere.
Personally I think that because it sat for so long there is just a blockage in the radiator. If I get some time over the easter weekend I'll see if I can hunt down a new radiator for it. Water goes in clear and comes out brown, so it obviously needs a change.
Cool stuff with the head swap. Was there any noticeable difference ? Damn, I wish I had the ease of sourcing parts like you do over there. I'm jealous :(

I tore the entire cooling system apart from end to end, tested a bunch of stuff, replaced a bunch more stuff and it kept overheating. I finally gave up with no resolution. Then one day the low oil pressure light came on. I did some more diagnostics and discovered that the engine is just plain wore out. You should definitely address any cooling system issues, but don't dismiss the possibility that the engine might be tired.

Sorry for the belated replies ! I got bogged down with work and other responsibilities ! Since then nothing has happened. I haven't driven the car in fear of it overheating and blowing up somewhere. I've been to the wreckers and picked up a few loose screws I was missing here and there. I attempted to remove an antenna while I was there to see how it all fitted but ended up breaking many a trim piece... so I won't be attempting it in a hurry unless someone has a guide ?
I also picked up a radiator cap (used) which - interestingly enough was rated at 15psi whereas the one I had on the car was rated at 13psi ;) So I've fitted it and will be replacing the water with coolant probably tomorrow. I also picked up a battery clamp as the one I had on there was generic and the bonnet wouldn't close properly.

I tore the entire cooling system apart from end to end, tested a bunch of stuff, replaced a bunch more stuff and it kept overheating. I finally gave up with no resolution. Okay, thank you. I did see a DIY on cooling system compression testing using an air compressor. I might try it (I am strapped for cash at the moment)

Really ? I quite enjoy the wheels how they are. :) I got these cool center caps with the car actually. Completely Japanese. Got a cool insignia "Idea." on it but I lost one of the allen key heads for one. :( I will replace it but for now it's neither here nor there. :3
I was thinking about running these wheels as are until I have enough for Watanabes. :)

Just gives a more finished look, I put some on my Integra/rover 416i Vitesse wheels as I didn't like the blandness of covering the wheel nuts as Honda did, & they can be very cheap...if you can find them. Though it is the possible they might not fit the center hole of aftermarket wheels.
{They can sometimes (rarely) also be found with Hondas early low/wide "H" on early City }

Just gives a more finished look, I put some on my Integra/rover 416i Vitesse wheels as I didn't like the blandness of covering the wheel nuts as Honda did, & they can be very cheap...if you can find them. Though it is the possible they might not fit the center hole of aftermarket wheels.

It started making this odd noise yesterday when I started the car. Like it has something in there spinning once I let off the accelerator. I haven't taken it off and I have no idea what it is... so I thought I'd come and consult the holy bible :P

Never found out what the white cylinder did or does. My dad suggest I put it back on the car and see if it works. It worked and the noise slowly disappeared. I was surprised. He said it was probably just the temperamental nature of carbys.
Anyway, I have also changed the atf. The at slips hard between 2-3 and 3-4.
I've been driving the car a bit too. Very long drive yesterday which was good. I took some photos around various places in Adelaide and I posted them below. Tell me what you think :)

I had a bunch of stickers recreated today - the original ACCORD AERODECK sticker for the back an a "Let's Lock Up" written in Japanese for the doors. They were originally on there but I can see they've been torn off. :'(
I got 3 ACCORD AERODECK stickers but I messed the first one up and put it on crooked. :( The second one (pictured) looks much neater and is only out by less than half a mm. The one on the door looks crooked but it's just the way I took the picture. :3

Thanks ! But unfortunately I had no idea what I was doing. Aaron helped me install it through messaging. Apparently because my Aerodeck is JDM and the NZ market is JDM I could simply switch the looms and it would work. He was unsure whether this would be a problem for CDM, USDM or EDM but perhaps it is ? I really couldn't help I'm sorry. You will need to get into contact with him to have any chance of getting yours working. He is the digi-dash god ! :bow:

Not much to report on at the moment unfortunately. I'd been waiting as the surround was snapped when it arrived (silly shipping :( ) and so I've been waiting for it to return from the repairer.

The repair was a complete success and it looks brand new ! (Well - that spot anyway ! :P) It definitely feels stronger than before and I'm confident no bumps or knocks will release the tension on that area and snap again.
I spent time cleaning up the wiring loom I was sent too. There was nothing wrong with it but most of the conduit was gone so a lot of wires were getting mixed up and I had to make sense of it somehow. I only wrapped this loom in electrical tape. It will hold it in a nice shape and rid any rattling. :) It was my first time doing something like that so it's not perfect but it will do the job :)

Apart from that I've had to do some soldering and wiring. I've got a few more left (which I'm hoping to knock out tomorrow) and then it will be finished ! :D I turned over the engine today and to my surprise (as it's been sitting for in excess of 3 months) it started on the first crank. Watching the digi-dash rpm gauge move as the rpm fluctuated was pure trance ! I can tell I will loath the day I have to take this car off the road for restoration/track prep.

Heyo, nothing new. Been keeping the Aero stationary for a while. I suspected a blown head gasket because it kept overheating. Although I got so paranoid I'd always shut the car off when it hit 3/4 temp :/ I took it down to my mechanic who did a compression test on the cylinders and they all came back roughly the same numbers so he confirmed there was no blown head gasket. I did the checks as well (radiator fluid bubbling, milky residue on oil cap, etc) and also came to the same conclusion. Since then I've put it down to the shitty, old-ass, rusted out, clogged up, bullshit radiator. So I managed to find a brand new one on eBay for like $95au shipped ! How cool is that ? I've got a picture below. It's a copper core, 2 row and has plastic tanks. I looked for an aluminium one but found no results. I did some research and I decided to stick with the copper. :) Anyway, here's the radiator ! Came in today and look at it ! it's so shiny and new :3 Mmmm all black as well ! Going in tomorrow !

Drove for about 2 hrs non-stop with no fluctuation in temperature. Everything was perfect :) Very happy. More updates to come now that it seems to be running quite stable :)
The old radiator was FILLED with gunk ! You could pull some out after sticking your fingers in there :( Poor car... glad it's changed now

Today I got those old, seized power folding mirrors out and replaced them with some others I'd purchased from someone off of the 3geez forum.
For anyone looking to do the same to their Aerodeck you will need to use the mounts from your mirrors but the body off of the sedan/coupe/hatch mirrors. Because of the lengthy shape of the door, the mirror mount is different (which threw me off). It is possible however to use them.
Here's a video of mine working. I'm unsure why but the passenger's side folds in and out faster than the driver's. Oh well... they both work which is awesome :)

Not a huge update but this is a Japanese stereo I bought from Yahoo! Japan Auctions about 2 months ago. All of my harnesses and the fm band extender turned up yesterday. I wired it in today and it suits the Aerodeck perfectly ! A very retro little stereo with awesome equalizers ! Brilliant for its time :)

Nothing too new to report. I've been driving the Aerodeck full time for the last 3 months and it's been superb - no leaks or hiccups. I've been letting others take it for a spin too. I only wish some of you guys were in Aus to try it out. It's such a fluid car to drive.

My grandpa brought around some new wheels for Easter. Custom made Minilite (similar to Watanabe). It was always my plan to get these type of wheel, so I'm glad I could find a good set - and for free.
Sizes are 15x7+25 with 215/65 all around. It sticks out of the guard by about 1" - 1.5". I'm thinking if I get rid of the balloon tyres it should sort a lot of it out. Some low + camber will tuck them in nicely too (Australian cops hate wheels sticking outside the guard)
If all else fails I'm going to look into getting about 5mm shaved off the back face of the rim. It should bring it in a bit further.

I checked out the 50s but they looked like spaghetti strings in comparison :/

I'm happy with it though, and I think with some low and camber it'll tuck them in quite nicely.

Unfortunately around April last year the Aerodeck's transmission died and I decided instead of fixing it, I'd buy a new car.
As you guys know the engine was in pretty bad shape anyway...
It's been almost a year since I last drove it and it's been killing me ever since. If there are any owners out there you'll know it's a different experience and it feels like the car has a soul. It's a pleasure to drive !
Well... the wait is over. Some local lads here in Adelaide - who specalise in building proper street Hondas - are going to help me bring the Aerodeck back to life. Manual transmission, new engine, and... our friends below: 45 DCOE Webers.

I spent quite a few hours down at the shop today. Lots more has been removed. The driveshafts are gone too and will be replaced with 2 from the DA model Integras.
We also took out the pedal box. We were hoping the one out of the donor DA we got the engine from would have the same mounts and we could bolt it right on however unfortunately when we took out the one from the Aerodeck it was different.

There's also an extra linkage for the cruise control which we'll remove before we put it back in. To save fucking around we decided to just cut and paste the clutch pedal from the DA. We're also fabricating custom aluminium pedals.

I like these. The 'Go Pedal' is a bit larger than the original Aerodeck one. As you can see the design of the pedals has actually brought the accelerator and brake closer together - ergo, easier heel and toe.
We found some custom engine mounts on a website that would allow for plug and play (essentially) when changing the engine but they wanted $700usd for the mounts plus $800usd for shipping. I spat the dummy so we decided to make our own. I won't name the website but I honest to God hope they were joking with the shipping quote.
Our mounts should be done over the weekend, but more on that later.

I ordered the adaptor plate for the Webers last night too. Turns out the guy who was going to make mine 3 weeks ago still hasn't so we told him where to go.
The new one should be here in 2-3 weeks and then we'll have engine porn gifted from God himself sitting in the shop.
Engine mounts are all done too. They look fucking sick and still need a bit of work. But they took the weight of the engine without any rocking, knocking or moving. So a fresh lick of paint and a few adjustments they'll be perfff. All mounts actually use existing holes on the body which is wicked.

We also tried out that pedal box too. It fit well however there seems to be a mount on the body/firewall which stops the clutch pedal from being pressed further than half a compression or so. The rust has all been dealt with and we've started laying base coats. Well, it's more of an exploratory coat. There is heaps of embedded fluid in areas, getting some reaction. But once those areas are sorted, it will be all good.

We got another coat on but there's quite a lot of ridges and stuff in the seam sealant in the engine bay. We're considering switching to a satin finish for the final coat, just to dull out some of the busy-ness of the gloss. It's looking really good though !

Unfortunately however, we've had our first little hiccup. Which really isn't too much of a hiccup. But, there was a water drip in the shop which messed up half of the paint in the bay. The other half had a bad reaction to embedded brake fluid / power steering fluid in the metal so we've had to strip it right back and do it again. I've also included pictures of some small cuts/welds that were made were rust was the worst. The boys have done a super solid and sanded down all the seam sealant too so there'll be no bumps from it in the paint... wait, I hope that made sense ? Meh... just look at the pics.

Sorry for the disappearing act. I've actually managed to lose my job... for, ironically, "working too hard". Hahaha. I work in an office adjudicating letters to the public regarding expiation notices and I was employed on a contract basis to help clear a backlog. I was exceeding my KPI by triple and as such, managed to get rid of the backlog and at the same time not get my contract renewed. So for the first time in 10 years I'm jobless which is bad in my city. The unemployment rate is high. So there's been little time for the build. I'm not sure what direction it'll take... but my main focus is getting another job (something that pays more too so I can really back this build special).
The guys doing my build have been off with personal matters too so we've all kinda stopped. But they're back in full steam this week and I'll be heading down tomorrow for some sexy pics.

Thanks for your words. I like the Aerodeck because it's unique. There isn't another car like it in Australia. I'm always a man who enjoys being unique.
The car has soul too. I don't know how to explain it, but I know it has a long life left to live. It always wants to go faster and always wants to be running.
So for a racer, him and I pair perfectly. With a hot cash injection for some shiny bits, it'll be one hell of a gnarly car. I'm excited to get the suspension and brakes fitted after I find a job to see what it'll be like around a track. I imagine quick given how much power it'll be turning out for the little weight it's carrying.
As for the job, nothing yet. Countless hours writing cover letters and resumes, and not even a phone call or interview yet. Jobs I thought I'd be perfect for, where I thought I had absolutely nailed the cover letter... rejection. It doesn't bother me though. I've been through worse, and I'm still here. Hopefully I get something high paying so I can really make this build something special.

This I had to show - it's a cover/sheath for the engine wiring loom. I saw this an instantly thought of that sexy lingerie your missus wears where you can see through it if you squint really hard, but it keeps some mystery. I really like it (yes, the lingerie and the sheath). It looks sleek and shows just enough colour (if you squint hard enough)

This is a battery holder that's been built as we're relocating the battery into that section under where the washer bottle should go on the opposite side of the washer bottle (if that makes sense).

This bit ^ (My washer bottle is on the passenger side - left side when sitting in the car facing forward - i.e. RHD)
The holder will stay skeletal and be bolted to the chassis section there. There's enough room and with a clamp it will be really secure. Very cool stuff.

The JDM fuse box sticker flew off during bay prep. I've spent about 4-5 hours tonight though translating and eyeballing off of the below photo and I'm going to get one reprinted for myself. Not to talk myself up, but it's a perfect replica (without the scratches and fading though). I'm thinking about heading to the wrecker to find an English version to stick on the inside so I have the translation handy haha.
Would any of you guys be interested in a sticker for yourself ? I don't imagine it'll be expensive to post so I'd suggest somewhere around the $25USD mark shipped would suffice. But I can confirm the price when I head down. I don't mind sending just one or two off to help you guys out. Post or PM and I'll get back to you on it.

I have actually had a photoshoot behind the building. It's quite an interesting place with some great modern architecture (high-rise sort of stuff). It's hard to find that in Adelaide, let alone somewhere you can photograph. Here's a few pics.

Had this sent to me tonight by one of the boys. I had literally never heard of or seen this before. Very race car.
(The tape is obviously for trial fits)
If you don't know what you're looking at it's the stainless steel cooling pipes. From what I've been told (someone please correct me if I butcher this) but their only benefit is that they never wear out, can never split or crack and never need replacing. They're very good at maintaining heat so the temperature compared to rubber is somewhat the same. The reason you can run this on the engine we've built as opposed to something else is due to the engine mounts being loaded with urethane. The stiffness means the engine won't sway or move too much which (if you had rubber engine mounts) could potentially crack the radiator mounts.
The welds will rust so it'll end up getting a lick of paint.

In terms of the build it's actually a bit slow. Things have just come up in everyone's life. But we're at the tail end of it now so I don't mind too much. If the engine still wasn't in I'd be worried. Besides, I'm still unemployed so the longer it's down there the longer I have to find some money to make it something even more special. I'd love to see it dumped on it's ass when it leaves.
The guys found an old Integra lip (I believe) and put it on the front bumper. If you guys remember I didn't even have a lip which made the front sit stupidly high. It's nice, although in terms of colour I would have preferred it to match the trim just above it.

It doesn't bother me too much. I plan on swapping this bumper out for the Series 1 when the money is available anyway.

Haha thanks man ! It has been a bit quiet, but I've been mostly waiting for the guys at the shop. They've undergone some pretty serious work at the moment and are at the tail end of moving shop. But we've ordered the coilovers so it should only be a matter of weeks before we get cracking back into it. We were told by KSport Australia that the coilovers are the first CA KSport coilovers the company has ever shipped in - so they are very special. They'll be the only ones in Australia for the CA platform. The Aerodeck just got rarer again.
As for the swap we're doing, I'm literally just waiting on them now. We're going to be making a few changes too - for example braided fuel lines and a few other bits I'll make sure I update on. All very exciting, we're aiming for end of February.

Project Aerodeck is back. Couldn't stick around long yesterday but grabbed a few snaps of it getting cleaned before rolling into the shop and then Jake sent me the engine shot. Looking so good.
The roof and bonnet are so faded that the water makes it look like it has a clear coat. I need to get a cheap closed door somewhere after we've got the engine running.
I'm heading back down later today so expect more updates.
P.S. Coilovers are inbound, only a few weeks out. Soon it'll have a nice drop it so desperately needs.

The front are at the lowest setting they'll go - still taller than the stock shocks! The top locator threads are also spaced incorrectly and don't fit in the shock tower.

It's fucking perfect. Like Mona Lisa... if she were drawn in crayon. We left a little bit of height. Personally, I think absolute final form perfection would be another inch down, but the cops here man... not friendly. It'll already attract enough attention, I'm hoping the fact they can finger my gap should give me a bit of relief.
Tyres still sticking out the guards, but it looks so badass. A real muscle car of the 80s... JDM style.
Anyway, we fit a few heater hoses today, special ordered the top rad hose and I'm going back in tomorrow to help mount the battery, roll the guards and do some elec/susp checks.
So close!

Back at the shop today. Completed suspension checks and put all the pins into the ball joints. Then we took the bumper off and to my surprise, managed to straight it out a bit (see pictures). I thought it was a goner, but looks like ABS + a good ol' heat gun will get it going. Took the opportunity to give the rusty number plate holder a lick of paint

I also took some time and started removing green tape left on by an ex-associate of SLT. Tiresome work but got about half the drivers side fender done in a couple hours. Glass cleaner that had alcohol and some elbow grease did the trick 👍🏻

Thanks B0CK! That makes two of us, ey. Shouldn't be long now. Got some more work done today, I'll get onto that in a sec. But to answer your question, it was fashioned from 2x DA3 front lips joined in the middle. It looks like the JDM options ones that say "ACCORD" on them. It's a good fit too, but falls short on the sides where the bumper meets the wheel. Meh, still looks dope imo.
Onto todays goodness. I had to work today but whilst I was gone the battery relocation got smashed out and I had these snaps sent to me. 👌🏻 Fashioned from some spare steel and welded to the chassis. Gave it a lick of paint and blends right in.

Copy away if you've got yourself a welder. Like I said, it's such a good spot for it because it's literally just an empty void of space.
As far as I'm aware we've planned to run cables back up to where the battery used to be and have a couple of terminals there that I can toggle if need be so when in storage I can make sure there's no draw on the battery and so I won't have to take the bumper off to take the terminals off... if that made sense. It's late here and English don't do too good.

Heading back into the shop tomorrow. I've got a detailer coming down to see what he can do about the paint although I already know the hood and roof are a lost cause as I barely got any clear coat on them when I did my rattle can job a few yeas back. So I'm trying to organise a vinyl wrapper to come down and do the in a standard gloss black on the roof and bonnet until I can afford a full respray. Still waiting on quotes, but I'll post up some shots of what the detail comes up like tomorrow.
Forgot to update about this, but I bought another climate control a couple months back.

It came up pretty schmick. Didn't think it was salvageable. I still wanna look into getting the roof and bonnet wrapped. I just don't think there's enough there to make it a good looking ride.
Went down to the auto shop where we ordered the top rad hose as we got a notification it was in Friday. Also picked up thermostat, some coolant, hose clamps, battery terminals etc etc. Final touches. Unfortunately however, the auto shop told us they couldn't find it. They were showing stock of it, but nothing. They looked for about an hour and it still didn't come up. :banghead: Super bad luck because that was the only one left in the country. So looks like we're back to playing the waiting game until we can source one.
On the plus side, we might finally be able to do something about that faded as rear hatch!

Good question. The universal hose kinks :( So unfortunately no bueno. We're hoping the stock hose will do the goods as it's shaped correctly. We managed to order it again and it was in Firday, but the fuckers lost the order.. AGAIN.
So in my last post I mentioned I was looking at getting it wrapped. Got a few quotes and the cheapest I found for gloss black was $600 install on site. Honestly not too bad, so I tried to tee up a time we could get him down to the shop, but instead was offered a respray on the panels for the same price. Not gonna say no.

Roughed up the surfaces, then hit it with primer. Still showed a few worry spots.

I won't post all the shots... you get the point. It wasn't looking too too bad. Then we hit it with the base and ugh... it just looked fucking horrendous. Mainly because those panels had been resprayed so many times in the past. We found like 3-4 different coats.
It was so bad I didn't even take pictures. So before we got any further we pretty much decided we may as well do it correctly so we picked up some paint stripper and... well... decided to do it correctly.

I could feel it in my chest yesterday. The popping you can hear is because we have an air leak in the Webers. It's been found and will be fixed today.
You may not have been able to see it in the video, but here's the coolant overflow. Since the mount for the stock one were already being used, Jake donated his Asahi overflow from his ED. Glass > Plastic (excuse the dust)

I'm going down today so I'll get a snap of the paint work. Nothing done on the roof yet, waiting for good weather down here still before we do it. However the bonnet has been fixed up and primed. Looks brand new. Super smooth.

I was hoping my next post would be one of me flogging the car down the street.
Unfortunately not I'm afraid. It's officially been 2 years since they've had it. I gave them notice. So the car will be done by 24th of Feb or I'm taking it elsewhere. (Time of posting this - 22nd Feb)
Since then progress has been speedy.
Paint has been finished. He went with a Satin finish. I would have preferred gloss... guess I'll give it a couple weeks and see if it grows on me.

The biggest Japanese car event in my state is happening 24th Feb - I entered the Aerodeck and it was accepted. Hoping it's done.
We found that the dual linkage setup we were running was cheap china ebay crap. The rod was flexing in the middle causing the issues we were having. So we're getting rid of it and making up another. I'll include pics once it's on. It should mean the car runs perrrf.

Here's a look at the new linkage kit. Simple stuff and works well. Car worked perfectly as soon as we started it up, idles perfect at 950 rpm.
He'll be tuning it later tonight and finishing up some smaller pieces before the show Sunday.
I am nervous as fuck though, the thing is so loud. It needs a center muffler. :nervous: Worried about the 5-0.

And on a different note- I'm the guy who was asking about throttle linkages on FB, what kit did you end up going with? If you have sort of a link that would be awesome, my scrolling hasn't resulted in any kit that looks like yours, and I'd like to get a known working kit rather than chancing it since your initial linkage was (unfortunately) garbage.

After work yesterday I went back to the shop and a lot more work had been done. As I got in he was custom making a shift boot, he'd also hand made an antenna block off plate using the rubber gasket from the old one, the rear wiper arm was also painted and the car was running a lot better - less popping from the carbs, there was also a catch can he'd made up from a carby cleaner spray (just for the show as a bit of tongue in cheek).

I'm at work today so I don't think I'll make it back down but from what I've been able to tell he has a wedding to attend today but he should be going back after. Has an exhuast leak to fix, the bonnet trim to put back on, the shift boot to finish and then clean all the dust off.

Well, I made it! My first drive with it was.. interesting. The car was running on 3 cylinders the whole way down and died every time I pulled up to a set of lights. It pissed me off given it had been running so well before the day of the event. I didn't really get to experience it.
Got in just before gates close. It was 37C degrees.

I do media for a local car events blog here in Adelaide, SA and I just couldn't help myself but take hundreds of photos of my car and barely anyone else's. It's going to suck when I end up doing the write up, but I just couldn't stop staring at it. I barely moved from where I'd parked it. I gotta say it was easily my favourite car there.

All day I had people come up and ask me about the car. I heard so much positive feedback. I really needed a day like this!

I even had someone come up and ask to interview me about it! Absolutely stoked. Half way through though he asked why I had disconnected one of the spark plug leads and whether it was meant to be connected to the dizzy or not. Hahaha, we must have knocked it off while cleaning in the morning. At least it was a simple problem as to why it ran on 3 and didn't idle.
I also thought the Carby Cleaner catch can was a good 'tongue in cheek' touch. :P

As the gates opened I left. Too hot and too excited to drive it again! It was running pretty damn well now (albeit needing a good tune). As I embarrassingly bunny hopped down the main strait where hundreds were watching me I finally got going and banged it up to 8k RPM. THIS CAR IS A FUCKING MONSTER! And it is stupid quick. I have never driven a car this quick before - you put your foot down and it wants you to go as fast as you possibly can!!
I took it to work and people said it was far too loud. Center muffler required.
