it should work. The wires in the back should pop right in. The only difference that i've been seeing is in the Left side and right side. We are right side...i dunno.. yah it should work. The wires are the same.. unless it was an auto and you have a 5spd, or vise versa.

No check engine light.
Don't know if you can use them. Probably can.

well now there will be a difference between 86/7 and 88/9 what's the year of both of them? it should work though the same. It will only look different, but the hook up's are the same. and it will have a PGM-FI light for the check engine.

I dont know if it will work properly, when i put an efi gauge cluster on my carb the speedometer would be way off, it said i was maxed out on the highway but i was going just as fast as the cars around me lol! i dont know if it will work properly the other way around but i know that an efi gauge cluster wont work on a carb for sure.

tach sounds like some connection at the distributor....lights might be related to your dimmer switch.

HELPFUL HINTS FOR CLUSTER!!!!!
86-87 are different from 88-89! 88-89 has a speed sensor in it, so if you drive a 88-89 (like me) and throw in a cluster from a 86-87 the check engine WILL come on!
ALSO the difference in the water temp/fuel gauge is only because of who makes it. There is a little symbol on the bottom of the speedo gauge
ND=NipponDenso
NS=NipponSaki
NS is the maker to use for the reverse indiglow gauges.

That happened to me before...the tach didn't work and the dashlights didn't work. I took off my dash and looked around in there. You might have to actually get your fingers down into all the wires, but when I was working on my car, I found a brown wire that had corroded to the point of breaking. I don't know if that's a common problem at all, but when I reconnected the two ends, it worked just like it should....might be worth a shot....it's only like 8 screws... :) Hope that helps more than leading you in the wrong direction!!!

use that to test out the connections. Turn on your lights and then test the bulbs. That will give you a good idea as to why your lights are not working. Not so sure about the tach though

the PGM-FI light is the same. When ever my ECU says something that light turns on. if you go to that thread that has the listing of the connections then you'd see that the lights are the same.

problem with the dash lights could be from a blown fuse
