Saw a sale for chips promised to add 85 hp and 25 mpg to any year honda model.
Just curious if those things actually work.

Basically, no one has cracked OBD0, which is what our cars use for engine management. OBD1 is very well documented and modifiable. Another option is Megasquirt, but it has a very steep learning curve, because you're essentially designing your engine controls on your own.

For what you're planning to do, an OBD1 swap would be an avenue worth looking into. There are gains to be had by tuning even a bone-stock engine.

I had no intention of buying one. Just curious really. I got plans to see what all I can make my A20 do by itself.

check out xenocron.com
All your ECU/ZIF sockets/DEMON flash tools/Chips/Wiring etc.
If you do go OBD1 AND tune it, remember this:
You can get a ZIF socket installed that has a clip so you can remove your EPROM chip and swap in another. My buddy has 3 chips with 3 different tunes. 1 all power, 1 for economy and one that's half and half of both. Takes time enough to unscrew 5(Sometimes just 4) screws and unlatch the ZIF socket, pull out first chip, gently press in the other, lock it and screw the cover back on.

The dizzy itself you'll have to source. I think my buddy is running a TD-34U Dizzy on his B-series since he swapped to OBD1
