What's going on, guys!

Just now finally got my e-mail verified so that I can post on here. I stumbled upon my Accord by sheer luck. I was given a "Grandma-Mobile" ( i.e Oldsmobile ) by my mother after she bought a new car. Lucky me! I counted my blessings for sure, but it was an automatic. And I absolutely cannot drive an automatic. So I followed up on a post on craigslist about someone wanting to get rid of an Accord that the seller had purchased for his girlfriend, but in the end could never learn how to drive. No year, no nothing. All I knew was that it was an Accord.

We met up a couple of days later, and looked everything over, then made the swap. I'm now in possession of a 1988 Honda Accord LXi 5-Speed. 12 Valve EFI. It's got sunbaked, maroon paint that looks uglier than sh*t! but above all: It runs pretty well. Thanks in no small part to you guys. I've quickly become the only one in a family of backyard mechanics that knows how to work on a Honda. ( It has its perks! )

So far I've:

Removed the fuel rail and cleaned up the injectors real pretty and put them back in.

Added a speedo cable.

New CV Driveshaft ( Whoops! )

Cleaned the thermovalve.

Tightened up the IACV.

Adjusted the throttle cable.

Cleaned out the throttle body.

New tires.

Replaced belts. ( No timing yet. Not ready to tackle that monster quite yet, and the belt still has some life on it. )

Welded up the exhaust and made it sound nice and quiet.

The list goes on and on...

I've gotten countless compliments on this vehicle. It's a gorgeous car, honestly. Some are surprised when they find out it's an 88! I'm working towards adjusting my valves once I get the timing belt done. ( Don't want to get oil all over a new timing belt if I were to do it now. ) I'm thrilled to finally be on here. Looking forward to speaking with you all!

( Bad picture, I know. Working on getting a better one. )

Welcome from the Bay. Sounds like you made a hell of a deal! What are the plans for her/him?

Welcome! The valve adjustment on these cars is done with the engine off and cold, so you aren't likely to get oil on the timing belt.

Thought about that after I posted, Dr_Snooz. Was a long day. :uh:

I know, man! I got a hell of a deal honestly. I'm planning on putting it through the works. Making sure the frame and suspension is solid first, then going to drop a bunch of money into it to make it nice. Might even throw a B20B in there and custom fabricate some mounts since I'm a CNC Machinist for a company who's pretty cool about custom work. Paint job. Nice ( Classy ) rims. Turbo? Who knows. I know I love this car and how reliable and unique it is.

Well, you adjust the valves on GM V8s with the engine running and the valve covers off, so I wasn't sure if you knew.

If you end up fabbing those mounts, don't be afraid to make them available to other members here. You might find a small cottage industry waiting for you fabbing up hard to find items.

I'll definitely talk to the owner and see about maybe letting me deduct some cash from my check monthly in exchange for time on the machines to make some in excess. It's by no means a done deal, but if I can make it happen; Consider it done.
