Is the 2 liter carbed engine from 1988 an interferance engine? Meaning, if I blow the timing belt, will the pistons and valves meet and do damage to the engine? The V6 in my 4Runner is a non interferance engine so it won't run if the belt breaks but it will not do harm to the engine.

Yes, it is interference. According to where the pistons and valves are in the stroke cycle, you can do mad internal damage to your piston crowns and valves. Change the belt, yo.

I was afraid of that. Car has about 123K K or about 75K M and the timing belt has never been changed so high time to do it.
Looks like maybe I can't spell "interference" either.
